Personal history
Myra grew up in the celestial city of Ganedon, right outside the gates. Society there was very collective. Everyone did their part to take care of the whole. There were multiple generations of aasimars that lived in the same housing. Life in the celestial city was near heaven. Since it was a collective society and one so ingrained in the Forever War, there was no crime or poverty. Everyone took care of each other. Those that left the city became soldiers or enemies of the Aasimar race and their powers plucked from them.
Myra’s parents became soldiers when Myra was young. They desired a higher purpose or that was what her grandmother always told her. If the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child” ever applied, it was to Myra’s childhood. She did not have a solo guardian but instead multiple parental figures that lived nearby to her family’s housing: neighbors, craftsmen, relatives, etc. Though Myra did not know her parents very well, she was never without parental support growing up.
Yet, Myra did not feel contempt for living and working for the city. She was always restless in a city that knew only peace. Perhaps it was her parents’ blood rushing through her or perhaps it was the gods pushing her toward her fate. Regardless of why, when she was old enough, she signed up to join the Heavenly Host. It was not a choice she made lightly and she wrestled with the decision for nearly a year before coming to terms with it. Even after joining the army, she had her doubts if this was the right thing for her. Myra still went through with the decision to leave Ganedon to join the Heavenly Host.
Like most, Myra enlisted as a soldier. Most aasimars were merely foot soldiers and she had no doubts about following that path as well. She began her early training as a soldier but that path diverged from her colleagues. Myra was not a fighter. Though she had the drive, her mind worked faster than her sword and created her to hesitate in battle. She was trying to put endless scenarios together and it slowed her down. One of her instructors took notice of Myra's hesitancy and inquired about the reason. When Myra disclosed that she was simply trying to plan and guess the next move, her instructor pushed her to talk to some of the army leaders and generals. Because of that, Myra started working under several of them to become a tactician. Instead of training to fight, she was taught how fiends worked and how to lead groups of soldiers. Myra was given countless books to read over. This was where she truly found her gift.
As her knowledge developed, so did her abilities. Something inside her woke up. It was like oil and water. The Arcane, as she later learned it was called, did not interact fluently with her celestial blood. She struggled to keep both in balance at first. Unlike sorcerers, Myra has no idea how to shape it and had no innate ability to do so. She started to work under other Aasimar wizards and mages to help hone her powers but there were not many and it was a difficult task. It took hundreds of hours of slaving over books and tomes to even begin to hold that energy in her hands.
But Myra learned quickly that the celestial army didn’t even have the tip of the iceberg. The answers she sought were not with the Heavenly Host but instead in another realm below. When she proposed her adventure, she stated her goal was to track down some of the fiends down below and do what she could to fight the war down there. Yet, deep down she knew that was a lie and not the full truth. She feared what her siblings might say knowing the full truth. She, of course, has no tolerance for fiends but she also had a hunger for something else. She knew that her hunger and greed for knowledge on magic was truly what pushed her to go below. Despite her inner feelings of doubt again, she gathered herself and her few belongings and left.
Mental Trauma
As a Scourge Aasimar, Myra's immense divine energy often threats to consume her. This is seen through the golden scars on her face and over her body that are physical representations of that energy break her down each time she uses it.
