Laughter

Laughter is a specific type of gnoll - feral, hyena-headed humanoids - that live within the Phantom Lands. The gnolls in the Phantom Lands differ from those elsewhere because they appear to be more gaunt and emaciated than the rest of their siblings. They are extremely aggressive and hungry. This has lead to packs cannibalizing their own kind in desperation. They are named after the eerie and unsettling laughter heard from the pack. The Laughter before the Slaughter.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Laughter does not breed by normal means. The belief is that the Arcane Poisoning and famine in the Phantom Land leads to other races mutating into what is believed to be gnoll-like creatures. This is commonly believed to happen in cases of cannibalisms.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Laughter is strictly carnivorous. They will eat any meat they see, regardless of current state of decay. They hunt in packs of 5-6 but smaller groups have been documented. Regardless, they almost always travel in a pack. If you see one, there is likely more nearby. Smaller than five sized groups are likely because they cannibalized members of the pack.

Conservation Status

Due to their extreme aggression, adventures have been paid to eliminate packs of laughter. They are paid per head that is returned. Despite the sanctioned hunts, there has not been a major decrease.
