Black Gates of Death

The Black Gates of Death is but a ghost story. It describes the moments after a person has taken their last breath. It is a place where even the Faceless One cannot reach you and magic has no use. Some describe it has limbo, the place between life and death. Very few have returned to add details to the stories, and those that have returned were never completely whole.    See, the Black Gates of Death is an endless space, both connected and disconnected from the primary realm. The surroundings seem to change depending on who tells the story. Yet, there is still a sense of dull, lifelessness, even if the area looks like home. There is one thing that never changes. The large, cold, black stone doorway in the middle of it all. While you can see through the threshold to the same dull shell, anyone that sees it knows that's not what the gateway truly is. Step through the threshold and you can finally be at peace, you can finally see the face of the faceless one in life after death.    The doorway is watched by Death itself. A tall, gangly creature of bones and light, black fabric. Death simply observes. It will not approach and will not speak, unless spoken too. If you are not ready to pass over, Death will offer you another option. A deal for a deal. Though death never forgets those that escape it. You leave something behind if you take the deal, and death rewards you with something else to complete the deal.    Many do not take the deal and accept it is time. It is up to you whether you take the deal or if you decide it is your time at last.
