Sylvani Firbolg
Sylvani Firbolg
“The forest listens longer than we speak.”Region:
The Great Vale, in the Ardren ForestPhysical Characteristics
Appearance: Sylvani resemble tall, graceful Firbolg with deer-like features — soft, moss-tinged fur, long pointed ears, and gentle, amber or violet eyes. Many bear antler-like horns that grow asymmetrically with age. Their skin ranges from pale umber to muted green, and they often decorate themselves with woven plants, moon-carved stones, or painted spirals.Height and Build: Taller and more willowy than most Firbolg, with a natural lightness to their step.
Notable Traits: Some possess a faint floral scent or leave behind soft fey glow trails in heavy moonlight.
Cultural Traits
Fey Resonance: Sylvani are deeply attuned to the ebb and flow of fey energies. Many believe they are descended from mortals who once lived among the archfey — or were shaped by their dreams.Ritual Speech: They often speak in poetic cadence or songlike rhythms, particularly during rituals.
Tradition of the Vale: Oral stories, dream-interpretation, and symbolic offerings to the Vale’s lake are central to their way of life.
Lifestyle and Beliefs
The Sylvani live in woven bough homes and quiet grove circles surrounding the lake at the heart of the Great Vale. They do not claim dominion over the forest, nor seek to expand. Their relationship with the natural world is reverent and observational. Most Sylvani believe the lake connects to the feywild, and that dreams born in the Vale carry deeper truth. Many druids among them revere Oakenfell, the ancient god of balance and the wild, seeing his presence in the seasonal turning of the Vale and the protective silence of the deep woods. Though reclusive, their rare interactions with outsiders often feel dreamlike — fleeting, beautiful, and disorienting.Legacy
The Sylvani are whispered of in old songs and tales told by forest-edge villages — strange, kind-hearted guardians of a place untouched by time. Their presence is more often felt than seen, and many claim a blessing or dream from the Vale changes a person forever. Whether by blood or belief, many druids across Wakodia trace their roots back to Sylvani influence.Playing as a Sylvani Firbolg
Sylvani Firbolgs are quiet visionaries — stargazers and dreamwalkers rooted in ancient groves and shaped by the rhythm of moonlight and memory. They carry an almost prophetic air, as if the stars have whispered truths to them that others have long forgotten. Subrace Traits:Starseer’s Awakening: When you complete a long rest under a clear, star-visible night sky, you enter a state of celestial clarity until the end of the following day. While in this state, you:
– Ignore nonmagical difficult terrain caused by natural features (such as underbrush, snow, or rocky terrain).
– Have advantage on your next Intelligence (Arcana) or Wisdom (Insight) check.
– Gain a +1 bonus to your next attack roll, saving throw, or ability check.
Once you use either the advantage or the +1 bonus, the state ends.
Dreamsense: You can cast Detect Magic once per long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. When you cast it, you briefly see glowing dreamlike threads that connect magical auras to nearby living creatures or locations.
Feystep Echo: When you use your Natural Invisibility feature, you may choose to leave behind a faint afterimage in your original location. This translucent shimmer lingers until the start of your next turn and can distract creatures relying on sight (no mechanical effect unless ruled by DM).
Ancestral Attunement: Once per long rest, you may choose to gain advantage on one Intelligence (Arcana), Wisdom (Insight), or Charisma (Persuasion) check, reflecting sudden ancestral memory or fey intuition rising to the surface.
