Overview

The Ashmaw Orcs dwell in Ashrend, a blasted land of mesas, dust storms, and the looming shadow of the Blacktooth volcano. They see survival itself as a sacred ordeal, believing their souls tempered like iron in the furnace of Sinbog’s will. To the Ashmaw, trial and pain are not curses but divine crucibles — each scar a mark of honor, each ordeal a proof of worth.  
 

Physical Traits

Ashmaw Orcs are sun-darkened, broad-framed, and scarred by the harsh winds and dust of their homeland. Their skin ranges from burnt umber to sooty gray, often streaked with iron-red tones. Tusks are thick and jagged, resembling volcanic rock. Many bear ritual burns, ash-scars, or charred tattoos earned during the Trial Grounds of Drakthul.  
 

Culture and Society

The Ashmaw live by trial. Young warriors undergo brutal rites of endurance — standing in dust storms, walking barefoot across hot stones, or drinking bitter ash-brews — to prove their worth. Their canyon-stronghold, Drakthul, resounds with duels, chants, and the hammering of weapons reforged after each victory.   Ashmaw tribes hold no patience for weakness. Yet among them, strength is not measured by domination alone — those who endure suffering without breaking are honored as highly as those who triumph in combat.  
 

Faith and Beliefs

Ashmaw revere Sinbog foremost, calling him the Forge-Lord who tempers their people through fire and pain. Flames are sacred — a duel fought by torchlight is seen as binding before the god himself. They also respect the volcanic scar of Blacktooth as a living reminder of Sinbog’s earliest trials, leaving offerings of blood and ash at its base.  

Playing an Ashmaw Orc

Playing an Ashmaw means walking with scars as your scripture. You might be a survivor of countless rites, a fire-scarred duelist, or a pilgrim seeking trials beyond Ashrend. Every hardship becomes your testimony. Consider how your character’s endurance defines them — proud defiance, grim resilience, or quiet strength.  
 

Racial Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid Size: Medium Speed: 30 feet   Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You see in shades of gray.   Ash-Hardened: You have resistance to fire damage.   Trial by Endurance: You gain proficiency in the Constitution saving throw.   Scars of the Maw: Whenever you take damage from a melee attack, you may use your reaction to gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1), regaining all uses on a long rest.   Languages: You can speak, read, and write Orcish and one other language (often the trade tongue of Stonefell).
