Aulvi

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aulvi are born with two arms and two legs. they have lighter bones than many other species, but this allows them a quickness that many other species lack. Aulvi also grow small to medium horns on their brows, ranging from barely noticeable spikes to antlers, with everything in-between. Aulvi have skin colors in more and more vibrant hues than most other humanoids. This is often due to location they have spent much time in, or locations they are most connected to. An Aulvi who is connected to the forest might take on a green or brown skin tone, while one in a desert might take on a beige tone. This is likewise true for hair, though some family lines have noticeably different hair colors, some even glowing, or seeming to glow in the sunlight. Hair colors run the gambit of practicallly every known color, as do eye colors.

The Aulven people are often afflicted by curses that have mutated or otherwise altered their physical bodies. Many manifest as oozelike, and both the curses of vampirism and lycanthropy originated from tests done on the elves in ancient times by those who dwell below. As such, it is not uncommon for Aulvi to have drastically different aspects or forms due to these experiments and curses.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aulvi, as the original species, were designed to be able to reproduce in a unique way. The Aulven flexible genetics allow them to be able to mate with species of most other vareties (provided some level of sapience, and organic reproduction is present) The result is almost always a half-Aulven or Aulvi-hari, Meaning Child of Elf. These children display traits of Aulvi while also being members of their race. Most notably, due to elven immortality, Aulvi-Hari mature at the normal rate to adulthood for their non-Aulven parent race, but mature at a slower rate and live, on average 1.5 times longer than members of the non-Aulven parent race.

Growth Rate & Stages

Aulvi grow in the same stages as humans, though on a different scale.

1. Newborn (0-5 Months)

Dream connection begins a few weeks before birth, though typically only with the mother

2. Infant (3 - 18 Months):

Dream connection expands to the family unit

3. Toddler (18 Months-5 Years)

Dream connection expands to friends and nearby Aulvi

4. Young Child (5 -25 years)

Dream connection expands to all Aulvi

Horns begin to appear, but grow very little at this time

5. Older Child/Pre-Adult (25-150 years)

Horns continue to grow, typically continuing through adulthood, but the most expansive growth of horns happens on average between the ages of 125-150. Male Aulvi begin to have the ability to brow beards at this age, and both sexes develop reproductive capabilities on average, between 125-140.

6: Adult (150 -onward)

Aulvi will continue to change and adapt throughout their immortal lives. Some molt their horns, others do not. Aulvi can adapt over time to almost any situation, and their hair, skin, eye color, and even horn types can change over the years. An Aulvi met one hundred years apart might look completely different from one end of that time frame to another. Aulvi are immortal, though can succumb to injury or illness, and as such take care to mend injuries and look out for their health to the best of their abilities. Aulvi, on occasion, have also been known to change gender, though this process can take anywhere from 100-250 years.

Death and old age (varies)

Aulvican only die naturally from old age if they choose to. Aulvi that do, rapidly age from their perceived age to old and venerable over the course of a few hundred years.

Post-life

Many Aulvi find their afterlives as either undead (primarily mummies and ghosts) or as non-undead spirits in spirit glass. once in spirit glass, most Aulvi find their spirits in the Aulvwalls of their communities, or, in much more rare circumstances, in a magical weapon. Aulvi have no afterlife, and as such find themselves, even in death, in search of community.

Ecology and Habitats

Aulvi are well-suited to most habitats, and often find themselves wherever the wind takes them. Aulvi are prolific sailors and explorers, and over time they adapt to the climate they are living in, most common among Aulvi, however are those who can survive the extreme heats and deep recesses of the planet.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aulvi are primarily pescatarian, eating almmost exclusively seafood and plants. Aulvi have no problem eating meat of other kinds, and often incorporate things like eggs and large amounts of honey into their meals.

Biological Cycle

After childhood, some elves will go through seasonal growing and shedding of their horns. Not all Aulvi do this, but those elves who live in particularly wooded or cold places tend to see this more often than those who do not. Auven horns typically take a year to grow back when removed in this manner. Aulven hornd lost in other manners may or may not regrow depending on how they were lost. If Aulven horns regrow, it typically takes one year to return to main length.

Behaviour

Aulvi are exceedingly social. Aulvi form a tight-knit group with any who they try to, and aulven homes are rarely owned by an individual, rather homes are shared resources. Aulvi loathe the dark, and sleeping alone in particular. As such, Aulvi will keep lights and/or fires going all through the night, and will, if given the option sleep close to others, preferring to cuddle with others who allow them to do so. This is very common among Aulvi, and often a confusing change for Aulvi who are not among others of their kind.

Aulven psychology is strongly impacted by the eons spent in The Below. Aulvi both fear and loathe aberrations, and have taken a stand against such horrors. However, the most common psychological disorders associated with Aulvi are Nyctophobia (fear of the dark), and autophobia (also called monophobia, isolophobia, or eremophobia, being the fear of being alone.)

Culturally, Aulvi have the most notable therapists, due to the lack of stigmatization of fears and disabilities in elven culture.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Aulvi work to agree on everything, but do have an elected queen or king who rules over a chosen group of decision makers. All Aulvi have a say, and these positions change often (with the exception of the ruler) individual towns have more of a town-head rather than a mayor, preferring a much more democratic decision-making process the smaller the town gets.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Aulvi, being kineticists have access to base materials that many other species have a harder time obtaining. This is also a major reason as to why Ailvi have a large diet of plants.

Facial characteristics

Aulvi have greatly varied facial structures, from circular and smooth to hi cheek-boned and thin. The extent of these is pronounced over the average human, for instance. The largest difference between Aulvi and humans is the length of ears, and the horns growing from somewhere on the crown of their head. Auven ears are much longer than human ears and pointed. Aulven ears also typically have three different biological forme (though other, more rare versions exist) Outward pointing, upward pointing and backward pointing

Average Intelligence

Aulvi are above average intelligence for sapient races

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aulvi tend to have heightened senses as compared to average races, particularly balance, sight, and hearing. Aulvi also have a subtle extrasensory ability to share a dream space with other Aulvi while sleeping, this ability is stronger within family units, even among non-blood realted Aulvi. this is in part due to the Aulven empathy that connects the Aulven people in their culture.

Beauty Ideals

Aulvi are very eclectic, and the primary ideal for beauty among elves is self-actualization. Aulvi who look as they want and choose to are preferred, and many Aulvi wear bright (some would say mismatched) clothing, and activate magical tattoos on their bodies and horns, and well as piercings for both their bodies and horns as well.

Courtship Ideals

Aulven courtships, despite their long lives tend to be relatively quick affairs, and not particularly expensive, preferring large groups of excited friends, family and other nearby people in the ceremonies to a formal affair. Aulvi typically have very little in the way of marriage rituals, and, since reaching the surface, typically take one from a non-elf partner, or invent their own rituals unique to themselves, finding ways to merge elven culture into non-aulven rituals.

Relationship Ideals

Aulvi appreciate every form of relationship and have a word for each type of love they can think of.

ɺaw: Romantic love- describes a love that endures, a committed and enduring love that grows over time, typically between married individuals or permanent couples.

Tsep: Flirtatious love- is a playful and flirtatious type of love, often associated with fun and lighthearted interactions. Elves have a strong aspect of this in many friendships, even while married or otherwise engaged.

Lœ: Overarching love: represents selfless, unconditional love for all, a love that extends beyond personal connections to encompass all beings. As shepherds of the world, elves see all living things as worthy of love.

òrshazh: Familial love: is the love of family, particularly the love between parents and children. It's a natural, nurturing, and enduring form of love.

Myæ: Friendly love: refers to the deep bond of friendship, characterized by shared experiences, mutual affection, and understanding.

řœzhè: Sexual love: This type of love is often associated with sexual passion, desire, and the passionate connection between lovers.

Theí: Self-love: is the love of oneself, a healthy sense of self-worth and acceptance.

Dů: Rival love: This type of love is for those who challenge you, those who are neither friend nor lover, potentially even enemies who you yearn to interact with.

(additionally there is obsession- lödhůⱱ: mania, or obsession over someone and something, though, unlike other species, elves do not see this as a type of love.)

History

Aulvi have been around since the beginning of time. When Aeosh created everything, the first living things created were the Aulvi. Sent to dozens of worlds, the Aulvi were tasked with terraforming and curating the world for optimal growth and unique lifeforms over unlimited time. Unfortunately, in time immemorial, the Aulvi were captured by servants of Aeosh’s siblings, the other elder, eldritch deities. For untold eons the Aulvi served as slaved and experiments for the alien beings from beyond our known universe deep within the world, in a place of shifting space time known as The Below. Eleven-hundred years ago, skǔ thümùɯ or Skybringer as he was known at the time crafted the Inner Sun, a spear made of pure soul energy that glowed with the light of the sun, a light that the Aberrations could not tolerate. He led the exodus from The Below for one thousand years. During that time, he saved his sister, hå'ɻuχi or Bluebird, but both lost their right eyes and arms in the process. He became known as chha-eǔed Ravered, or the One-eyed prince. He was lost collapsing a cavern system on the aberrations.

The Aulvi made it to the surface one hundred years ago. On the first day on the surface, the second princess was born. She was blind, but others could see the sun for the first time in their lives. Shortly after making it to the surface the Aulvi came in contact with an Anadi tribe at the oasis and learned that the humans and giants on their landmass had enslaved those people. The Aulvi would not stand for this, and gave an ultimatum to the slavers. Many humans agreed, but the giants who enslaved Anadi ( this did not include the wood or desert elves) did not agree, believing themselves above the smaller beings. Within 25 years, the Aulvi had destroyed giant civilization. The Rune giants were all but extinct, and the populations of the other giants had dwindled to less than a tenth of their overall numbers.

After the storm giants led the armistice agreement, the Aulvi allowed them to maintain two cities in the far northern mountains of their land. With this done, the Aulvi turned their focus to alliances and enemies. The Aulvi had created a symbiotic relationship with the Anadi, and the humans who had joined them, but had as much as declared war with Galvander in the northern kingdoms. Galvander dominated the first year of the war, killing hundreds of Aulvi, but once Aulvi got the handle of naval warfare, they had handily defeated Galvander’s naval fleet at the “Battle of Rising Shores”(äw ví mdúúkhil mírpaw) (65) After this, the Aulvi solidified their naval fleets, and many still live in the oceans on their bënpèmlüph or flotilla.

Many Aulvi are lycanthropes, undead or otherwise cursed. This does not deter them from their best connections with other elves or their seemingly endless love for one another. There are, in fact, 8 words for love, each with 6 meanings in Aolven. This is also evident in their language, which has 6 active overtenses. Aulvi also developed the science of psychology, and therapy on their exodus, and have no internal economy. Aulvi have access to all types of magic, and control of the elements from their connection from terraforming. Warriors are typically champions of a cause, and, unlike other races, Aulvi have a shared dream space, and cannot, as a rule stand to be alone, nor do any Aulvi enjoy the dark. In the current age, Aulvi live in a pseudo-utopia, and seek to find friends in the extended world, with other peoples and cultures. Their main goal, scientifically, is to research continental drift to find their ancestral homeland and reclaim their ancestral lands, whatever that means. With their immortal lives, they have as much time as they need, though, with the uncertainty of their pasts, they do not allow themselves to dawdle in the present.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Anadi: Aulvi see Anadi as equals and, as Anadi have many of the same abilities as Aulvi, with a similar history of enslavement. Aulvi and Anadi are as close as any two races in the world, and share politics, socioeconomics, and in many cases, family space. Aulvi respect Anadi tradition, and do their best to avoid being seen as heroes to the Anadi, fighting for their continued freedom and expanded unity.

Conrasu

Dhampir (Gei-Ireije): Seen by Aulvi as sort of estranged but similar cousins, the Dhampir with their ancestral curse feel to Aulvi like kindred spirits. Elves often see Dhampir as dark and brooding, but this just means, to many Aulvi, that they are just unfmiliar with the sort of elven warmth. Aulvi see Dhampir as sort of a mirror into their own past, and attempt, perhaps too often, to shine the light of their own history on the plight of the Dhampir. This goal is not to change anything for Dhampir culturaly, but rather to help connect with a people who have such a similar plight of curses.

Duskwalkers (uhṭṣ ůùl dyawmùɯ)-

Dwarf (fá): Aulvi have more difficulty with dwarves than with almost any other peoples. While not openly hostile, elves and dwarves have many religious differences that lead them to be at odds more often than not. With dwarven antipathy towards the dead, many Aulvi find it impossible to find common ground with dwarves on those lines. However, Aulvi respect and appreciate the dwarven kinship, and the unity of focus that dwarves have in both family and war.

Goblin (brɞm):Aulvi really enjoy the company of goblins. Ironically, due to their short lives, goblins have a similar propensity for life to that of elves. Aulvi see the goblin inclination for haggling to be an entertaining and enjoyable pastime. While Aulvi have a hard time understanding certain needs of goblin culture due to extreme lack of certain resources, Aulvi nonetheless find a kindred spirit in goblins, so long as they can at least find an understanding for goblin economics.

Goloma:

Aulvi-Hari (Lœdhærphaw):Aulvi, with their extremely adaptable genetics have the ability to breed with anything remotely Aulv-like, and therefore, Aulvi-Hari are particularly prominent. Aulvi do not distinguish between half-Aulvi and full Aulvi, for favor or interest, but do accept that a half-Aulven child will only have a lifespan equal to or slightly longer than the childhood of a normal Aulvi. As such, Aulvi have begun to learn how to interact on a shorter time-span with their half-aulven offspring of various species. Luckily, Aulvi-Hari grow into adulthood at the speed of the other parent race.

Hugh: Aulvi thoroughly appreciate the Hughs for their intellect, ingenuity and willingness to travel and exchange people for years at a time. Aulvi find it challenging to live in Hugh society for any extended period of time, however, due to the extreme antisocial tendencies of the Hughs in relation to the extremely hyper-social tendencies that elves tend towards. Aulvi and Hughs often collaborate on situations that need, or benefit both the use of science and magic, but due to social difficulties, find these interactions taxing but rewarding.
