Dwarf

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves scorn young adults much more than other races, so despite reaching maturity at age 18, they are often culturally considered children until they reach 50.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Oats, barley, beans, hardy root vegetables, goat cheese, and ale are staples of dwarven diets due to the rugged and often cooler environments they live in. Meat is an occasional luxury, often salted, smoked, or more rarely-- magically preserved for extended periods of time. Eating large amounts of meat, especially roasts, is often a sign of wealth and status among dwarven societies.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Dwarves' hair is thick and abundant, especially the hair on their heads, and male dwarves make a habit of growing long, well-groomed beards (although some dwarven females do the same.)

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dwarves frequently make their homes near entrances to the Beneath, such as Kirn Doral in the Thundering Peaks.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dwarves, regardless of subrace, speak Trade Common and Dwarven.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The artistic side of dwarves is perhaps best expressed through their architecture, although their seemingly inherent grasp of stone-working makes it just as easily applicable to sculpture as well (though few would ever claim to admit it as such.) Dwarven music is largely vocal, ranging from religious chants to bawdy songs sung around the beer-hall.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While most other races view dwarves as stubborn, curt, or lacking in social graces, the dwarves often view much of the other races as undisciplined and malleable on their values. An arrogant and outspoken High Elf or Dragonborn will quickly grate on a dwarf's patience.
Lifespan
350 years
Average Height
4' - 5"
Average Weight
Approx. 150
Average Physique
Dwarves are broad chested, tough, and strong for their size. Their short legs make them ill-suited for running and can also make it difficult to swim or ride horses. As a result, dwarves prefer to ride in carts, mules, or domesticated ram.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Dwarven skin tones can range from pale pinkish-white to a rich black, largely divided along clan lines.
