Sorcerer
Fountains of Magic
With exceptional creative and destructive potential, Sorcerers certainly know how to make a spectacle. While they might accidentally burn down the village in said spectacle, a Sorcerer who puts their talents to good use instantly becomes a staple in their community. Praised to their faces and worried over in private, Sorcerers rarely live a quiet life, both in the literal and metaphorical sense. They emerge with personalities as strong as their arcane powers, often setting off at a young age to pursue a life of adventure, and sometimes fleeing the destruction wrought by the careless use of their powers. To say that the misunderstood, tortured soul runs strong in this lot would be an understatement.Sorcerous Origins
In this setting, sorcerous powers cannot be bestowed on adults or children. They only ever arise when a family's lineage is blessed with magic by a powerful being or force or when a ritual is performed shortly after birth. Only Warlocks see instant gains from their deals with powerful beings, and they suffer proportional consequences. The types of sorcerous origin are outlined below.Abberant Mind
An extremely rare sight in Vrashyn, and Aberrant Mind sorcerer is what can happen when an unwilling host is exposed to the mild-altering properties of the Mycelian Collective, a sentient fungal colony the size of a small kingdom. The usually benevolent Collective uses psychotropic spores as a defense mechanism when under attack. These spores usually only disorient the victim and compel them to leave the fungal domain. However, some magically-sensitive individuals react more violently to the spores. If they survive, their offspring gain some of the powers of these spores.Divine Soul
Sorcerers of this tendency are either the subjects of divine prophecies or the offspring of those blessed by a god. Though similar to Clerics in some ways, these Sorcerers differ in that their powers do not rely so heavily on the continued worship of that god, as the magical powers they possess were usually won by their ancestors’ service. Generally, not acting against the wishes of their ancestral patron is usually enough to avoid a good smiting, so the piety of this group varies. A list of major gods in this setting can be found here.Draconic Bloodline
Dragonborn and Kobold sorcerers are almost exclusively members of this subclass, and they are joined by others who are the beneficiaries of their forebears' service to dragonkind. Regardless of their racial heritage, they often make common cause with the Lizardfolk in their fight against the Satyrs and are among the few outsiders allowed access to Snflmz and the Dragonborn Settlements. This type of Sorcerer may also come from the The Outlands where cold-loving dragons live. Unlike their eastern counterparts, they mostly avoid dragonkin and prefer to use their powers for other purposes. They may find work in adventuring parties and mercenary companies where their destructive powers and eventual ability to fly prove quite useful.Giant Soul
Most common among Dwarves, Orcs , and Humans whose ancestors live in the extreme climates that Giants favor, Sorcerers of the Giant Soul variety are created by Giants to be called on in times of need. The Giants only bless those with a proven respect for their kind, and the blessed family receives the protection and friendship of the Giants in return for pledging that their family will never ignore a Giant's call for aid. The mantle of the Giant Soul passed through the first and second-born children of each successive generation, as further children possess less and less of the magical gift. Once they reach adulthood, these Sorcerers are free to live wherever they want so long as they heed the Giants' calls for aid and promise to return so that their children can be raised by the Giants as they were.Shadow Magic
Shadow Magic is usually gained by families of those who perform great services for the Unseelie Court of the Fey, the more sinister group that rules the Fey Queen's Domain during the autumn and winter months. Those who know the reputation of the Unseelie Court dare not refuse these offers, and if successful in their quest, their descendants are gifted (or cursed, some might say) with impressive magical abilities. The hero who performed this service is excluded from this boon, as the Fey only bestow instant magical powers on individuals who swear lifelong service to the Queen. An alternate route to this magic is to be a moral born in the Shadowfell.Storm Sorcerer
The savior of honest sailors and pirate crews alike, Storm Sorcerers are most commonly employed on ships that travel the Boiling Sea or the Great Sea , where storms and currents are the most treacherous. Other Storm Sorcerers stay on land, either as adventurers or protectors of their coastal towns. Instead of passing their abilities on through birth, these abilities can only be granted through rituals performed on infants born during specific celestial alignments. The rituals that are responsible for this transformation have been adopted by most of the major religions, though they appear to have an older origin.Wild Magic
The origins of Wild Magic are as varied and strange as the results, and it is up to the player to determine exactly how their character became exposed to it. Of the Sorcerer subclasses, this is by far the most feared and loathed by ordinary people. Individuals afflicted with such a curse usually live lonely lives or learn to repress their magical abilities in order to fit in. The Outlands and other sparsely populated lands tend to be their refuge. Those cursed with Wild Magic are the only exception to the rule that Sorcerers receive their powers through birth: though Wild Magic can be passed genetically, it can also inflict an adult.Remove these ads.
