Cûrambis
Summary
Cûrambis is an independent principality in Northwest Laivra ruled by High Prince Saít Orongya. The land is a mixture of Wood Elves and Gnomes that declared independence in 3173 as a reactiont to the increasing cultural domination of the Ailië, the ruling ethnic group of Parthil.Adventuring
When it was a part of Parthil, adventurers were common in Cûrambis. While some areas attract adventurers due to an abundance of mercenary work or treasure, Cûrambis did the opposite, arriving at a larger number of adventurers simply because the area is hostile to most other people. The uneven terrain and megafauna make it difficult to establish settlements here, resulting in the region's reputation for lawlessness and danger. Rogues, Barbarians, Rangers, and Druids are all common in the kingdom.Society
Cûrambis has not been apart from the rest of Southern Parthil long enough to develop a completely distinct culture, though it has always been unique in a few key ways. The significant Gnome majority has resulted in a culture that is less influenced by Elvish custom. The Gnomes of Cûrambis are also more religious than Parthilians, practicing a local religion most similar to that in Erek.Politics
Though the government has a strong presence in Cûrambis' three cities, those who live outside them interact little with the government outside of taxation. The urban elites of the region have tried tirelessly to change this situation with only fleeting success. The House of Orongya has ruled Cûrambis for the last 500 years or so, and Gnomes have consistently maintained political influence, such as it is, in the region during that time. Tonoshes are the defacto local rulers of Cûrambis' wilderness. These local gang leaders monopolize the production of the hunt and trade in and out of their territory. Each Tonoshe hires mercenaries from outside the principality to maintain influence, and some gangs are publically or privately aligned with members of the nobility.Economics
History
Cûrambis has been occupied by Gnomes for most of recorded history, though the earliest histories describe them fighting Orcs and Half-Orcs to claim the territory. Cûrambis first became integrated into an Elvish kingdom in about 1800 AK and again in 2423 when Parthil began its rise to regional dominance.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
