The Decay

The Decay is a phenomenon that has seen the gradual decline of both the Mythic Beasts and elemental magic over the generations. In times past the Mythic Beasts where practically gods on earth, they could level mountains, raise oceans, and forge islands, but now that is only myths and legends. The first noticeable moment for the Beasts was when the dragon Jorki died in his sleep, the cause was a mystery to the Mythic Beasts until other such ancient Beasts began similarly dying and the Beasts realised it was old age, something which had never happened to them before. This was the first moment of panic for the Mythic Beasts, but its likely that the Decay began much earlier and they simply did not notice because of how gradual it was.   Over the millennia the Beasts have further weakened, once upon a time they where all intelligent and magical, now most of them are simple animals, lacking the sapience and the magical might they once held. This has of course allowed the humans of the world to rise up as the masters of the world, however the change was so slow that in most cases there wasn't even some great rising, the Beasts simply became less involved, and the Humans took over affairs of the world.   Many believe that the Decay is still ongoing, evidence of this is the decline of Elemental magic, practiced primarily by the Primals and the Beasts themselves, elemental magic has become harder and harder to access over the years. This has also led to the Arcanic Magic introduced by the Wanderers becoming more widespread across the world, leading many to suspect that the Wanderers either intentionally engineered this, or knew about this and kept it a secret from the Mythic Beasts.
