Counts report directly to the Duke and coordinate with Viscounts to maintain a cohesive administrative strategy.

Viscounts govern large towns and manage the surrounding small towns and villages. They act as the primary liaison between the local administrators and the Counts.   Northwalk’s mines are renowned for their production of precious metals and stones, including silver, gold, and the rare Blue Agate. The industry is a well-oiled machine, with operations spread across several major sites. Each site is a bustling hub of activity, managed by experienced overseers and supported by a skilled workforce.

The Silver Treck

One of the largest mining operations in Northwalk, known for its extensive silver deposits. This site employs advanced dwarven mechanics, traded with Formir in exchange for Northwalk’s onyx. The dwarven technology includes robust drilling equipment and mechanized carts that transport ore through the extensive network of tunnels.  

The Golden Depths

This site focuses on gold extraction and utilizes the Pulse of Sav Runes, a unique form of rune magic. Each major mining operation or quarry is overseen by a Master Miner who can harness the power of these runes. The Pulse of Sav Runes are capable of three significant tasks:
  Controlled Excavation
With a single use, the rune can precisely excavate a 20-foot cube of earth, allowing for efficient extraction of ore without disturbing the surrounding structure.
  Earth Pulse
Another use of the rune generates a pulse that stabilizes or destabalzie the earth, preventing collapses and ensuring the safety of the workers while also loosening sections of the mine.
  Ore Attraction
The third function seperates visible and embeded ores from soft rock and earth, preventing damage which is typically inveistable in the process.

The Blue Agate Quarry

This quarry is famous for its production of Blue Agate, a highly prized stone in both Northwalk and Formir. The quarry employs both traditional extraction methods and rune-enhanced operations. The Pulse of Sav Runes here help in the delicate extraction process, ensuring that the valuable stones are removed intact.  

Trade and Economic Impact

  Northwalk’s mining operations are not just about extraction; they are deeply integrated into the regional trade networks. Formir, with its demand for onyx, provides gold and advanced dwarven machinery in return, enhancing Northwalk’s mining capabilities. The trade agreements with Formir also include the exchange of specialized labor, with dwarven engineers regularly visiting Northwalk to maintain and upgrade the equipment.

The harsh terrain of Northwalk makes large-scale farming challenging, but the fertile valleys and riverbanks are cultivated with care. Agriculture provides about 30% of the population’s sustenance, focusing on hardy crops and livestock suited to the climate.

However, Northwalk goes beyond mere connectivity between major settlements. The duchy has invested heavily in improving roads leading to and through smaller towns and villages, ensuring that even the most remote areas have access to well-maintained routes. This comprehensive approach prevents isolation and supports the economic integration of all regions within Northwalk. Unlike typical medieval villages, Northwalkian villages are akin to small towns, with robust infrastructure that reflects their importance in the local economy.

Stone is a predominant material in Northwalk’s construction, used extensively in homes, public buildings, and fortifications. This reliance on stone is due to the abundant mineral resources within the duchy and the relative scarcity of timber, which is more prevalent in the eastern regions where rivers flow. The stone construction not only provides durability and resilience but also contributes to the region's distinctive architectural style, characterized by sturdy and imposing structures.

Smaller towns have basic sewage systems that, while less sophisticated, still provide essential sanitation services. Given the presence of monsters in the ecosystem, Northwalk has invested heavily in fortification infrastructure. Border towers, walls, and fortified keeps are strategically placed to protect against external threats. Adventurers Guild

The Adventurers Guild doesn't play as vital role in Northwalk, but it does address the few safety concerns and supports local security. The guild has halls in major cities and large towns, where like anywhere else, adventurers can take on quests, receive training, and access resources. Although it isn't the best palce to reside as an adventurer, their services are appreciated nonetheless.
