Expedition for Rience (Ree-ence)
Born before the cataclysm. Lost in its wake. Rience Noni was the genius princess of the southern monarchy. She was startlingly intelligent and shamed many scholars in her early years. She was hardly seven when the kingdom fell. It was a tragedy to lose someone of her standing so quickly.
However, news of her possible survival has driven the entire empire into frenzy. A young scout by the name of Mari went a little deeper into the southern border than anticipated and sighted a little girl. While it has been decades and centuries since the cataclysm, they say the girl looked eerily similar to portraits painted of her early youth.
With a renewed motivation to investigate the South Territory, the empire began recruiting for an arrowhead party. Their goal would be to penetrate the dangerous domain and open up a path for a scholarly expedition. The Vanguard is composed of some of the strongest warriors and mages the empire could recruit on such short notice. However, the rearguard became a throw-together force formed as an unneeded backup force; the strategists said it was unlikely any recorded monsters could pose a threat to the front line as is.
Plot points/Scenes
After the party is asked to hunt for food Abby will either go alone, ro they will come along If they all go along with him, upon successfully killing some monsters to eat they begin to return at Abby's request to cook it. As they begin walking back, in the sky is a bright white flare, meaning retreat. Then, another flare, red, meaning help. Then blue, forward march. Then green, objective secured. Confused, the rearguard leader requests that they all move to infestigate. The arrowhead party was about half a mile away, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to reach them.
Upon arriving at the flare's location, the scene is gruesome. The entire arrowhead party lays in pools of blood, bodies ripped apart, some hanging from the trees, others getting intimate with a few rocks. It is far from normal. Standing in the middle of it all is a bear. One larger than any of the party has ever seen. It turns, scar about its face, blood dripping from its maw as it throws the body of the lead Saint to the ground. His golden eyes open. With the most powerful people dead, the rearguard cpatain shouts for everyone to run, but it's too late. Anyone who tries to run instnatly loses their head. The rearguard freezes realizign they are trapped. The bear thunders forth and begind mauling those hwo stand their ground, within seconds the entire rearguard is desimated by the time Abby and the four make it to the scene. The bear eyes the five of them and before it can run at them, a girl appears in front of it, putting up a halting hand. The bear roars and the the party must make dc 25 wisdom save. Anyone who fails passes out, anyone who succeeds falls to the ground breathless, unable to breathe. If everyone fails, Kaulie will be the pass out, hearing the Rience singing a lullaby his master has definetely sung before. If anyone else is left awake they hear a lullaby, prayer, or song from their childhood that speaks to them before passing out cold.
