Changelings possess a unique anatomy that allows them to alter their physical appearance at will, adapting their form to mimic other humanoids. They have a baseline humanoid structure but lack definitive characteristics like hair color or eye shape until they choose them.

Reproduction among changelings typically results in changeling offspring, but they can reproduce with other humanoids, resulting in children who may or may not inherit the changeling abilities.

Changelings grow at a similar rate to humans, reaching physical maturity around late teens to early twenties. However, their shape-shifting ability develops in early childhood. They learn to control and refine this skill as they grow, with full mastery often achieved by adolescence. The stages of their development are heavily influenced by their environment and the identities they choose to adopt, making their psychological growth as significant as their physical.

Changelings are believed to have emerged from the Feywild, descendants of fey beings captivated by the human world. These fey ancestors adopted human forms to explore and experience life among humans, eventually falling in love and permanently altering their shapes to bridge the worlds. The offspring from these unions were the first changelings, born with the innate ability to shape-shift and a deep connection to natural magic.
In society, changelings often adopt roles that make the most of their flexibility and discretion, such as diplomats, spies, or entertainers. Their fey-derived talents for illusion and transformation make them adept at navigating complex social dynamics, enabling them to blend into various cultures seamlessly. Embracing their heritage however comes without it's perks, many Changeling forever hide their truth, afraid of how they'll be viewed in a world that is bound to fear them.

Sylros the Weaver is a mythical changeling who shaped the current beliefs and customs of their people. Sylros was said to be one of the first Changeling, not only that, he was able to weave reality and illusion so seamlessly that even other changelings were often unable to distinguish his fabrications from the truth. His greatest feat was creating a sanctuary for changelings, a place that could only be found by those who knew its true nature and could see through the veils of illusion protecting it. This place, still stifled by illusion to the present is known as the City of Masks.
