Fishing, Gathering Skill
Fish can be sold, traded and eaten only if it’s still fresh. A fish is considered fresh within 24 hours of being caught. Fish can be preserved for longer by being cooled or cured. A spoiled fish can still be used as bait fish, but cannot be used as live bait.
A fish can still be harvested like any standard creature for organs and other parts. To catch fish away from the coastline, a fisherman must be on a boat - or some other form of platform - to stand on that's on or above the surface of the water.
Having a higher Fishing level will allow you to catch more valuable fish.
Fishing Process
You can fish twice per long rest. This activity takes 2 hours. For every +5 you beat the DC of the fish by, you get an extra one of it.
Sometimes, a lucky fisherman thinks they're fighting a fish, but reels in something else valuable instead. When you fail to successfully catch a fish, roll percentile dice. If you roll a 95% or higher, you reel in a sunken treasure instead of a fish. Roll 1d12 on the Fishing Treasures table. You still lose your bait if you reel in a treasure.
- If you have not already, obtain necessary bait. This can be done by scavenging for Bugs/Worms, or by using previously caught fish.
- Roll an Athletics or Survival skill check. If your roll equals or exceeds the fish's DC, you catch the fish. All bait is consumed whether you catch the fish or not.
- Roll the corresponding die to determine how much fish you obtain. If you roll higher than the amount of bait you have, you catch the amount of fish equal to the amount of bait you have.
- You gain Fishing XP equal the level of the fish you obtained + your current Fishing level (If you fail to catch a fish, you instead gain 1d4-1 Fishing XP and lose the corresponding die of bait).
- This rod allows you to add a +1 to any Fishing skill check you make to catch a fish.
- This rod allows you to add a +2 to any Fishing skill check you make to catch a fish.
- This rod allows you to add a +3 to any Fishing skill check you make to catch a fish.
