Zekalah (ZAY-kah-la)

Zekalah is an avowedly peace-loving nation in central Asuris that has a long history of getting along with its neighbours in Eltherean.

Climate:

The lowlands of Zekalah are mild along the River Afon, but the Haiarn Mountains are tall enough to be temperate and even quite cold at higher elevations. The Coedwig Forest is close enough to the desert to have seasonal climates in the North but is a rainforest in the South.

Geography:

Zekalah finds itself bordered almost exclusively by ocean, forest, and desert. The Asurisian Waste marks the nation’s Northern border, and this vast desert’s strange effect on the weather leads to hardy citizens living and working in extreme conditions. The River Afon is just South of the desert zone for the most part, but the fact part of it is in the temperate zone means sections sometimes freeze on top, affecting the river’s flow in the winter. The Haiarn Mountains aren’t as big as the Worldtop Range in Dofmariel, but they are larger than the Shards between Llafanwyr and Danreay. Where these mountains’ Southern foothills meet Eltherean’s Northernmost forests represents the edge of each country’s territory, though in truth there’s never been conflict or a precisely delineated border between the neighbours. Zekalah’s access to the Eastern Ocean means it has a second, shorter connection to the other nations of Asuris (particularly following the political changes in Gochanrall 20 years ago). The Haiarn Mountains are home to the Red Dwarves of Ogafau Ddofn.

Major figures:

The best known figures in Zekalah are the Dwarven King Thovrun Brightborn II and his elven Queen, Shalheira. They have two children, Crown Prince Debel and Princess Selussa. Also of significance are Diwedd Afon’s Human Mayor Baldrin Heudebrin, the Human Lord Margrave Dederik of Dechrau Afon, the Elven Lord Abarat Fenzeiros of Llyn Ochr, and the Dwarven Lord Kradmun Redfury of Ogafau Ddofn.
