Mayra Auer

Queen of the Arruce Kingdom (a.k.a. The Generous)

Born Princess Mayra Buhl, first daughter to the king of Liten. As part of an arrangement between the Arruce and Liten Kingdoms, Mayra was married to the first born son, Prince Egrin Auer II of Arruce. In return for marrying into the Auer family, the smaller nation of Liten joined the Arruce kingdom as a vassal. As the new Princess of Arruce, Mayra found fault in the way the royal family interacted with its subjects. Only nobility or the wealthiest among the commoners were given a rare audience with any of ruling family. When she grew up as princess in a smaller kingdom, her father instilled values of family and honor in her and felt responsible for all those for whom they rule over. They would make frequent public appearances doing speeches, parades, or even to visit orphanages and farming families. She would continue this practice in the Arruce kingdom, and though Prince Egrin was initially against breaking such tradition, he would slowly follow suit.   After the king's death and Egrin II's coronation, the family and kingdom as a whole saw major reforms. The kingdoms treasury began to take the money brought in from the peasantry and allocate coin to fund public services, research, and the building of villages in the colonies south of Badur such as Idreah. Mayra and Egrin were a common sight among the population of the capital city of Lira and almost universally loved among their subjects save for some of the aforementioned nobles and wealthy who believed no one in their position should mingle with those they deemed below them.   Years passed and the royal couple still had no heir. They struggled to to have a child and after many still born and sickly infants whom passed quickly, they were finally blessed with a son who survived past infancy named Everan. During her time raising Everan, the colonies in South Vithrin began to grow with Idreah and Stanstead among the fastest growing due to their position on the edge of the Picris Forest and along the Badur River.   Around the time the Prince had come of age, strange reports of unexplainable events had been occurring within the capital, primarily centered around the old temple to the divines. The historians who worked there identified an old blue crystal heirloom of the Arruce said to be from the days of the the three companions of the first age and the founding of the Arruce kingdom under Queen Nushala. There are also stories of the temple that housed it being build by an ancient order known as the Ildari. These stories are best believed to be fiction of course, but as the days and weeks passed, the stone crystal seemed to glow brighter and some within the city began to exhibit unattural abilities. Some were harmless such as creating noises seemingly with no source, but some were more destructive as one of these individuals learned to create fire just by willing it. This power, untamed, created a fire that destroyed much of the city near the Pegasus Gate (East Gate). Mayra lead an effort along with her son to rebuild the eastern part of the city while Egrin sent messages to the major nations in North Vithrin to meet and discuss the happenings and what to do with this 'return of magic'.   The meeting was agreed upon and would occur in the neighboring Sultanate Tova-Naa. This gathering would come to be called the Northern Nations Summit and as the King was busy planning a trip to the colonies due to more occurrences happening there, he would send the Queen and Prince to the summit in his stead. Accompanying the queen were four knights of the Kingsguard, Sir Otikax, Sir Gladio, Sir Aywin, and Sir Ellisar. Additionally, the captain of the Arruce Rangers unit (Also known as The Herders) Captain Han'z, as well as the Queens personal Chef Arden.   The queen brought the stone to the summit to discuss its connection to the magic that had been occurring and agree upon what should be done with it. However, a few hours into the meeting a councilman from the only Elven nation known as the Tarath Isles began to speak. He listed grievances that he and 'his kind' had with some of the nations present. He revealed himself and his company to be part of a splinter group known as The Severed and and they drew in closer they proceeded to draw their blades, lighting it with a green magical flame. Among the severed was Sir Aywin, one of two elven kingsguard within the Arruce Kingdom, and with Queen Mayra in his view, he began to rush toward her.   Mayra quickly took the box containing the stone and the other kingsguard, captain Han'z, and even her chef circled around her to protect her, but not after Sir Aywin landed a blow slicing through much of the flesh across The Queens back. Mayra, losing a lot of blood struggled to keep standing, but the Severed seeing her protected turned their aggression toward Prince Everan all alone. As the Severed Leader moved toward the prince, Otikax, Han'z, Gladio, and Arden attempted to stop him, but not before the Severed Leader unleashed a power that smashed the marble ground and seemingly broke many of the bones in the Prince's body seemly instantly. Everan's body had not yet hit the floor before Gladio and Otikax sliced through the elven man as Han'z and Arden let loose arrows into him. The arrow from Han'z' blow released with such force that what was left of the body was tossed back and pinned into the wall behind.   The Arruce group picked up the Prince and surrounded the Queen as they moved her outside the palace to safety. Once they found a spot to rest, the queen looked over her son's unmoving body and it is said that as she peered into his lifeless eyes, so did the life leave hers. As they returned to the palace in the Arruce capital, they found an attempt had been made on the king's life by the other elven kingsguard, though unsuccessful, it did leave the king scarred and blind in one eye. Mayra and Egrin mourned their son and at the funeral, King Egrin promised to rid the world of the magic so that nothing like this could happen to anyone ever again. He also swore to retaliate against this group known as 'The Severed'. It took Mayra months before she went back out in public. Though she would not be allowed out without the protection of a newly formed group within the Arruce Kingdom known as the Spellbreakers. These emotionless and hideous looking bodyguards followed her everywhere she went and never let be outside of their reach. The people supported the new war and the queen was still beloved, but it had become clear to everyone. The light had gone out of her life.
