Badur
Underneath the Badur mountains lies a great dwarven city bearing the same name. One of the last great Dwarven strongholds, Badur has stood the test of time with its history rooting back to the second age. The city itself was built as the mines sprawled throughout the mountain. As veins dried up on what is now the first level, they dug a quarry down until a new vein was found. And as those mines on a new second level ran dry they dug the quarry down until more precious ores were found. This process was repeated for generations until today where the quarry is so deep that winch and lift operators became a necessity for travel between the levels and becoming an operator is a much sought after and respected role within the city.
There are currently thirteen levels spanning hundreds of feet down with each level mostly dedicated to a particular commerce:
- Tourism: Inns, Embassies, General Stores, Stables, trade
- Communications & History: Printing Press, News, Archives, Krusik Library*, Jobs
- Research: Schools, Colleges, guilds, museums, abbey, bookbinder workshop

Government
Badur is run by the heads of the nine noble families simply known as 'The Nine' who trace their lineages back to the founding of the city. The city runs on a voluntary tax system based in tradition and honor meaning that most public services are funded by the wealthiest citizens. Badurin society is heavily built upon their traditions and they are a proud people. In peace times wealthiest among them will contribute large sums of money for public works as a means to garner respect and improve their status in the city. This means that the working class and poorest do not pay taxes and spend most of their earnings on basic necessities which helps them save to potentially climb the social ranks.
In times of war or when in dire need, a base tax is implemented paid by every citizen, though this is extremely rare. In such times, those who want to gain respect and honor have two ways of doing so: 1) Contribute more than the base tax required. 2) Volunteer for military service and performs acts of heroism.
