A2: Ch5: Chey Part II

Changing course, the party instead covers up Mattias and heads to their room at the Inn they had been staying at. On the way, Shen borrows Aire's bow and arrows and sneaks away and goes back to the ministry man they killed and buried, using his boon for the first time, he raises the corpse as a zombie. He sends his thrall to the council building with the bow and arrows, a note with names on it including all the councilmen (Lubo's name crossed out), and a command to kill anyone it can find once there. Laying Mattias down on the bed fully reveals the large purple glowing stone imbedded in his chest. They plan to surgically remove the stone but need supplies. They send Xar into the market to buy the supplies they need. While he is out guards apprehend Xar and bring him to the council to stand trial. There had been reports of a lizard person entering the building prior to Lubo's death and then leaving the ministry holding a naked human.    Xar is questioned by the council and gives them half truths about the events and his role in the events that took place. They bring in a ministry man who had seen the group trying to fight their way out, but as far as he knows they were trying to escape from the chaos that had erupted. They brought in the body of the thrall Shen had raised and asks if the ministry man knew him. He says yes and talks about how he always talked about opportunity and wanted to raise his position in the ministry by taking any opportunity he saw good or bad. With this "evidence" Xar was released under the supervision of two guards at all times. He decides to stay at a different Inn that night and freaks out the guards by sleeping naked and tying himself to the bed.   Meanwhile, the rest of the group notices Xar's absence and assumes the worst. They send Shen out to get the supplies this time and he comes back with the items. All of them exhausted from the events that had taken place and lack of sleep, Aire suggests they get some rest before attempting to perform this operation. Shen convinces him that they should act quickly and proceeds with the operation. Shen attempts to inject Mattias with a concoction that should keep him asleep but in his exhausted state punctures Mattias very roughly waking him up right then. Him eyes turn an inky black and a demon forms from the stone inside the room. Bink falls limp to the ground and so Shen grabs Bink, casts magic missile targeting the area around the stone on Mattias' chest, and jumps out the window. Mattias slumps over dead, while the demon grabs his lifeless corpse and in infernal speech whispers something into the stone causing it to glow brightly. The demon sets Mattias down who is now alive again and they walk toward the door. As they do, Aire stands in their way. The demon claws at Aire while Mattias casts a spell on him. Barely able to stand, Aire makes a last ditch effort to pull out the stone from Mattias' chest and is able to yank it free and he sprints and jumps out the window. Hearing the screams of the demon from inside, the party makes a run for it. In the distance they hear screams of the townsfolk and guards rushing toward the scene. Aire and Bink go to the market to hide while Shen goes to the house where he met the Revenant.    Xar and the party meet up the next day and go to see the aftermath of what had happened. The demon had torn apart the Inn and was eventually slain, but not before it took 22 guards with him. The party decides to take the stone to the council and garner their support in the war on Galren's side. They bring in Daxius through the teleportation circle in the council chamber to further explain, then take the stone for research. Aire then takes Rosie to Ghandon to study under the monks just as he did as an orphan then the group meets back at Galren.   In Galren, Daxius shows them the progress they have made in rebuilding since the siege. He shows the the plot of land where they will start building an establishment for the group as well as the council chambers. Xar asks Selren about becoming an ambassador to which she agrees and grants him an office within the new council chambers to use. They then choose to take some time to gather rumors and train. Aire heads to the monastery, Bink goes to Chey to help Mido with the remainder of his campaign and transition to the council. Xar and Shen stay to help rebuild in Galren.
