Magic Bubbles
A simple evolution of potions that came when an accident occurred with an alchemist playing with children. Discovering what would happen if you combine potions with a soapy mixture. The practical use of magic bubbles, more commonly known as potion bubbles, is limited however they have been popularised by children in the city of Lha-Ria.
Discovery:
One day, an unnamed alchemist in Lha-Ria was playing with his children. Making soapy mixtures from scratch so that they could enjoy the pleasure of bubbles. But during the excitement, the alchemist accidentally knocked over a potion of levitation which dribbled its way into the mixture. One minute everything was fun and games, the next his kids were floating off the ground and stuck on the ceiling for a full hour. The children were delighted and fell safely onto a pile of pillow asking for more. From that day, the alchemist began experimenting. Combining various potions with soap solutions, showing them off to family and friends. One friend in particular, a fire Alum who happened to be a wood smith, loved the idea. And took it a step further by designing and carving wands with various runes. When using the solution with one of these 'rune wands' the magical properties of of both combined. Allowing for hybrid spells to pop into existence like never before. The wood smith attempted to make a profit out of the idea but sadly no one took much interest. Except for the local kids and a one of two toymakers. One scholar in the city stumbled upon the rune wands and extended the idea yet again. Incorporating forged rune circles into their research into increasing the efficiency of steam-based mechanical contraptions. The idea would be to slot various speed runes inside the pipes of machinery. Allowing for the steam or water to pass through at faster rates than previously achieved. The scholar is still tweaking the idea and testing at Harmonia Academy.Practical Application:
The process of creating magic bubble is simple.Potion of Choice + Soapy Solution + (Rune) Wand = Magic Bubbles
If used during combat it takes 1 action to prepare the wand blow bubbles. If a rune wand is used, then the effects of the potion combine with the powers of the rune to create a hybrid spell. Only one kind of rune wand can be used at any given time, to change the type of wand or potion takes 1 action.
When bubbles are blown, use 1d6 to determine the number of bubbles that spread upto 15ft infront of the user. Bubbles will remain in the air for 1 round of combat or 1 minute of gametime if they are not interacted with. After this time period, the bubbles will pop on their own accord. When a bubble is popped, the droplets of the potion spread out in a 5ft radius and activate the effect of the potion.
Examples:
- Fire Bubbles + Explosion Rune - When popped, any target within range of 20ft are dealt 1HP of burning damage
- Invisibility Bubbles - When popped, any targets within a 5ft range become invisible for 1 minute
- Slowness Bubbles + Ice Rune - When popped, any target within a 5ft range watch bubbles shatter dealing 1HP of frost damage and given a disadvantage to movement for 1 round
- Healing Bubbles + Strength Rune - When popped, any target within a 5ft range is healed by 1HP and given advantage on strangth rolls for 1 round
- Posion Bubbles+ Speed Rune - Bubbles jet out of the wand at speed, making them more difficult to dodge. When popped, targets within a 5ft range are given the poison condition for 1 round
- Water Breathing Runes + Distance Rune - Bubbles drift upto 20ft from the wand. When popped, targets within a 5ft range are given 1 minute of water breathing
Potential Plot Hook: The toy store has been broken into by a local gang of teenage hooligans. There are now reports across the city of bubbles popping, causing all sorts of chaos. Local guards have put a bounty out for anyone who can bring in the culprits.
