Once a renowned Acuran living in the age where exploration of realms was new and exciting, quickly became a creature that was feared across the realms. With biological experimentations that transformed him into more a monster than his own creations. Halvar the Mad, Realm Ranger, Lord of Hybrids.
I fear something happened to Halvar that day. Maybe it was fear, maybe it was shock or something else entirely. But whatever it was, it changed him. He was never the same, more distracted? Or erratic? And his ideas have become more, unsettling. When he spoke before, it was inspiring. Now... it makes me concerned for what he might do next.— Phodzhal, Realm Ranger
Early Days:
Before his descent into madness, the future of Halvar looked bright. He had a brilliant mind and naturally gifted in magic, as many Acuran were. But Halvar took it to the next level, with an intelligence that rivalled scholars three times his age and a fascination with experimentation that allowed him to be innovative in ritual prepping. Along with his long term friends, Phodzhal and Ik-Guru, the trio joined the recently founded Realm Rangers in an attempt to create a new form of portal. One that was capable of staying open for more than minute and created artefacts to allow the portal to open in the same location each time. During their trials, they were successful enough to open a gateway to a realm that was yet to be discovered. The Realm of Monsters.
Upon walking in this new land, the trio were quickly found by the creatures of the realm. Giant monsters and feral beasts with powerful psychic capabilities. This sudden ambush left the three inventors no choice but return back home. Not before Halvar was injured with irreversible scars during the conflict. He felt the power and strength of the monsters, got first hand experience with their magical abilities. From that moment, his life was changed forever.
The Hybrids:
Over the years, Halvar kept returning to the realm, with the help of his friends and the Realm Rangers, they established a small community to keep out the native beasts and allow them to research the realm further. But the scarred Acuran did not return for the same reason as the others. He had a new motive, to learn about and seize the power of the beasts for himself. Hiding away in a secret laboratory, Halvar began new experiments. Combining magic with animals in an attempt to replicate the power of the beasts. He started small with bats and rats before moving onto wolves and bears. Eventually animals were not enough and the madness kicked in. Tricking sorcerers and minaurans to 'aid' him in experiments. Often never to be seen again.
As the years went by, Halvar got more ambitious with his abominations. Creating hybrids between people and animal. Animal and monster. Building up a portfolio of new monsters that he released into the realm of monsters. The father of beasts like vampires and werewolves. Minotaur, sirens and more. These creatures were beginning to get noticed. Not just in the monster realm, but the realm rangers themselves. His employers tried to put an end to the experiments and make Halvar pay for his crimes against nature by sending his friends Phodzhal and Ik-Guru to bring him in. The trio's reunion was short lived when the now completely mad Acuran slaughtered his friends in cold blood. Disappearing into the lands of the native beasts, never to be seen again.
While Halvar the Mad was lost to time, his creations spread like wildfire. Becoming some of the most common creatures in the realm of monsters. Beasts that would later build cities, civilizations and claiming an entire continent all to themselves. Naming their new home, the land of Kurse.
