The Treaty of the Forge was a treaty between the
Zeeci tribes of the
Gnashi Desert and the
Lorvi of the Lor'Kecht Advoch. The treaty established the nation-state of
Narr, splitting the Zeeci territory with their eastern land becoming part of Narr under the Advoch's subjegation.
Synopsis
Starting in 1873
SE, the Lor'Kecht Advoch lead efforts to conquer the land from Alnuk to the
Forgelands. This campaign was directly funded by the
Estarian military as part of their colonial project to create the nation of Narr as a semi-autonamous puppet state. Whenever possible, the coallition of Lorvi and Estarians would pay the Zeeci to cede their land, or forcefully establish colonies without direct confrontation. This didn't always work, and resistant Zeeci fought back in a series of skirmishes and battles known as the
Yellow Mountain Wars.
The treaty was signed in 1893, when Chief Karther, representing the confederation of Zeeci tribes, surrendered to General Solomon Kerth and the new Narr authority.
Conditions
The treaty cedes "all sovereignty in matters described" to "all land and parsels therein from the Yellow Mountains east; Bracken Sea west; and Forgelands south." The
matters described being the ability to make and sign treaties and laws, conduct sensus work, and construct public roads. The land described in the treaty's language was almost half of the Zeeci's historical territory, which was now part of Narr's borders and state.
The concessions given to the Zeeci were the ability to obstain from citizenry, permission to form their own local government (though that government would lack the ability to make laws and build roads), exemption from any draft of military service for Zeeci, and the permission for the Zeeci to form their own militia that would be "subject to the Lor'Kecht's oversight, but not to its interferance in operation."
