Vampires are undead beings created through a deliberate blood ritual known as the Rebirth. Though they were once Human, the transformation alters their physiology, halts aging, and grants them supernatural strength, speed, heightened senses, and regenerative capabilities. A condition known as vampirism.
They require blood to survive — approximately two litres per day — and are particularly vulnerable to fire, sunlight, and weapons made of Damascus steel. Most display full albinism within their first year after transformation, making them easily identifiable.
While not inherently hostile, vampires who lose control or reject discipline risk becoming ghouls: mindless, violent creatures with no sense of self. Others, particularly the oldest, may slip into Entrückung — a state of otherworldly detachment.
Vampires are not a hidden species, and their existence is publicly acknowledged in most nations, particularly in Stranovia, where they enjoy legal protections and limited civil rights. Public perception ranges from fear and distrust to fascination and political utility.
