Gnomes
Gnomes occupy an interesting niche within Vhakatshu. Their origin is unknown, as they seem to have emerged out of natural features of the world; some from rocks, others from trees or hills. It is said that they emerged through small portals to the feywild that only they can access. As one of the few beings that are native to the feywild, gnomes carry its unpredictable nature with them. This, surprisingly, has made them quite adept as inventors, since their wild and chaotic nature leads them to have very little self-preservation and an abundance of creativity.
Gnomes maintain a large presence in Tharkenwod because of the significant fey presence in the forests of the region. This has contributed heavily to the country's penchant for innovation.

Genetics and Reproduction
Gnomes are not born like the children of other species and to many other peoples of the world, their means of reproduction is a closely guarded secret. Their children are born out of natural features like the original gnomes, but it is uncertain whether they are brought in from the feywild or have some other origin, since nobody has ever seen a gnomish child.

Naming Traditions
Gnomes, like most fey, are reluctant to share their real names. As such, they often come up with a fake name or otherwise take on nicknames given to them by others. A gnome may be known by one name to one group and a completely different name to another, making it difficult to keep track of one individual.
