Rainer I

Imperator Rainer Erokardos

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Rainer is tall and broad-shouldered, built like a warship hull—muscular, solid, and imposing despite his age. Fitness and agility remain high, with little sign of frailty; his only concession to age is a stiff right knee from an old Legion injury. He neither uses nor tolerates physical aids, seeing them as signs of weakness unless absolutely necessary. No chronic illness, no visible abnormalities—he keeps himself as relentless as his reputation.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in 2711, Rainer Erokardos began life as a minor scion in the family’s eastern holdings, never expecting succession. He volunteered for the Imperial Foreign Legion at seventeen, starting as a Private and enduring the harshest postings. His battlefield tenacity and refusal to accept defeat saw him rise to Tribune. Returning home, he entered the House Army as a Commander, quickly earning respect for his results and unyielding standards. When the Iron Vote was called, he was not the heir-apparent—he won the title of Imperator only after a grueling, public duel with his cousin twice removed, an event that became legend in Erokardos lore.

Education

Rainer’s education is as utilitarian as his philosophy. He was formally schooled in the House’s military academies, supplemented by compulsory shifts in the foundries and dockyards. He excelled in tactics, logistics, and machine operations. His real education, however, was on the front lines—where he credits “the Legion and the forge” as his true teachers. He is suspicious of abstract theory, favoring practical mastery and on-the-job training over traditional scholarship.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Rose from Private to Tribune in the Imperial Foreign Legion through merit and battlefield distinction. Modernized the Dunantulujra Shipyards, increasing output and reducing logistical failures to near zero.   Instituted the “Dockhand’s Review,” a practice where even the lowest-ranked worker may call attention to errors, promoting ruthless efficiency.   Maintains perfect attendance—notoriously never late, never absent, never delegating critical oversight.   Twice-victor of the Iron Vote duel, establishing his rule as unchallenged and respected.   Vocal supporter of the Empress and House Billung-Hawes, strengthening House Erokardos’s standing as the Empire’s martial backbone.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Rainer is driven by an unyielding sense of duty: to his House, his workers, and the Empire. His personal creed is “merit before blood”—he believes only accomplishment and discipline grant the right to rule or command. He seeks to leave House Erokardos stronger and more unbreakable than he found it, with loyalty to the Empress and the Iron Code at the heart of his legacy. He is determined that no comfort, no softness, and no shortcut will ever corrode the steel that made his House great.
