House Papastefanou

The Family of Papastefanou has its origins in an old family of priests, manning one of the monasteries at the edge of the old empire.   Legends says in the 13th century they defended a mountain crossing for over 40 days when enemies from the north were invading during the Empire's weakest times. When the enemy finally broke through the monastery they took executed most of the family taking only the youngest as prisoner. He managed to resist torture and imprisoment from the enemy for half a decade until he was finally freed when troops liberated the area. That was Markos Papastefanou, the youngest back of the family back then but now a revered ancenstor. The family went on to keep strong ties with the church using the wealth given to them for their service to the Empire to upkeep more monasteries. Centuries later 3 things remain. The family name, some precious remaining bottles of wine from the monastery vinery and a dozen of the family flintlocks, all engraved on bronze and bone by the monks. Heirlooms of the past but invaluable none the less.
