Gateways

Gateways are the Fast and safe Connective Tissue of the Galaxy. Gates are fairly big installations and for the first Generation gates they were non Standardized.
Soon a Size A was established.
  Size A is a 200m Radius ring.
  Size B is a 500m Radius Ring.
  Size C is a 1KM Radius Ring.
  Size D is a 2KM Radius Ring.
  Size E is 5.5KM Radius Ring.
  Size E.2 is a 34km wide Ellipses. 
  Gateways Function as a Funnel through the Membrane and due to being a constant Connection, safe of any Disruptions or any other major problems that come with Normal FTL Travel. Making it Safe and Consistent. They are also Two-Way transportation
They also have a second Function. They also transport Power and Communication over its FTL lines. enabling Connections between Solar Systems far away and even Power Transmissions. These Transmissions are Passive and can be tapped via a Special Installation that then gets Distributed into the Solar System to all things requiring power. Usually a Distribution Satellite on the Pole of the Host Star and from there sending Focused Power directly to all with a receiver Station.
The Gateway Power Distribution Network, GPDN, is Powered by Multiple Fully Enclosed Dyson Spheres and recently also a Penrose Sphere. With these they can cover the energy Requirements to keep up the Gate Network as the Holding open is only requiring a low constant current.
