Communal Navy Marine Forces
The Communal Navy Marine Forces (CNMF) is the Navies counterpart of the Communal Terrene Forces.
Just like the CTF it has a large arsenal of various Vehicles and Personnel to assault Ground based Targets or Space based Stations. But unlike the CTF, their focus lies on Providing Security for the Navy and attack more Permanent Space Installation, Boardings, Checks and even to some degree Policing on Navy Vessels.
As it might be apparent, the CNMF's first duty is to act as Security on Naval vessels shipping out for war. While boardings are rare, they do occur, and the crew can be attacked during time at dock. With various vectors to assault the living members of the crew, the Marines duty is to prevent that. Before the Legion, the Marines also were the Light Infantry to take vital objectives in the beginning of Invasion Campaigns, Seize Space assets and Board other vessels.
While they technically still do have that as their scope of operations possible, by expansion of the Empire and eventually the establishment of the GISC their duties slowly shifted from Frontline fighting force to Armed Guards. The vast majority of Marines are Stationed on Stations, Ground based Installations or other permanent Space based installations. Usually serving as some form of Police and Defender at the same time.
While this is true, the Marines still have forces that are for their actual Stated Purpose. Far less Numerous as they used to relatively speaking, they maintain their forces and rotate the quiet Guard duties with the less quiet Duties on active combat vessels.
