History
The Aunix originally evolved in tribal communities using large tree systems that grow intertwined to provide support against the high gravity. These tribes would regularly wage war against one another for control of valuable resources within the dense undergrowth of their forest homes. As the centuries passed, the culture evolved along with tribes as leaders arose and created their own empires composed of various tribes. Technology was fairly low level for the majority of the Aunix’s existence until the discovery of the Key.
The Key, as it is referred to by Aunix scholars of the current era, was a derelict ship of unknown origin that was discovered in the icecap at the southern pole of the planet. The exact date that the derelict was discovered or what exactly it contained, but it is theorized that it might have contained a knowledge repository of some form that allowed the fairly technologically inept Aunix to advance exponentially in a short period of time.
The technological advancement of the Aunix made most of the issues facing the species inconsequential. The tribes began falling under the banner of the burgeoning government that found the Key, the Council of Scira. The remains of the Key has remained as a holy site for the Aunix, seen as the true birthplace of their civilization and as proof of their divine right to take to the stars. After reaching the stage of interplanetary and interstellar travel, the Aunix already knew they were not alone. They prepared themselves for many possibilities and saw fit to abandon the tribal organization and establish a professional military for their endeavors into space. The warrior culture of their past would live on through the military as they spread. The Aunix first interactions with the wider galactic community would involve border skirmishes with the Vesk. These skirmishes were on the verge of escalating before the Galactic Community intervened, ending the conflict and officially welcoming the Aunix to the greater community.
Aunix serve as a military force in the current era, whether for official responses or as mercenaries. Many Aunix still hold historic grudges against Vesk, although the sentiment has waned considerably in the passing centuries.
