Mother of the Sea/ Mother of the Tempest

Mythology & Lore

It's believed the Mother was from the Water plane and trapped in ours during The Tear. There are also some ancient texts that describe the mother as having a deceased body of a smaller creature similar to herself, many believe this to have been a child of the creature that didn't survive the transition between planes.

Divine Origins

It's unknown when the worshippers of the Mother began but like most pagan gods, it started sometime after The Tear.

Tenets of Faith

Respect your family/crew

Worship

While there are very little in terms of specific rituals, worshippers tend to pray before setting sail or in rough weathers. It's also common for crews that don't worship her to have a symbol of her religion somewhere on the ship.

Priesthood

There are no official priests or temples to the Mother, rather worshippers seem to learn more of the goddess through dreams, and sometimes nightmares. If there were any religious leaders, it would be captains or crews that have been on the ocean for long periods of time.

Granted Divine Powers

Those that receive blessings from the Mother learn abilities that relate to the ocean and a large number of aquatic spells. They may also learn to speak to children of the Mother, these include Nymphs, merfolk, and other aquatic beings.
