Sovereign Blades
The Sovereign Blades are a majestic weapon commissioned and wielded by the equally as majestic Sultana Nala Al-Sharaf. An upgrade from her traditional dual-wielded scimitars, the Sovereign Blades are a pair of enchanted scimitars that can be wielded as a pair, or with their hilts locked together, forming a single double-sided scimitar. This weapon's elegant curved blades encourage swift continuous slashes in both forms, making the blades appear almost as if they and the wielder are spinning in an elegant and sharp dance of death.
History
The Sovereign Blades themselves are a new creation, but their origin is much older. They were forged from the combination of three significant weapons. Two of these were Nala's scimitars that she dual wielded. The third was a unique double-sided scimitar wielded by one of her ancestors. Together they formed the Sovereign Blades.
Nala's weapons of choice were always the dual scimitars. When she fled from the Ivory Palace during the Church of the Sun's insurrection, she made sure to take a special one with her - the Dancer's Scimitar, a blade that was said to carry the power of the desert winds and was even capable of using wind to carry its strikes to reach far away targets. Wielded by the first Al-Sharaf to use the Way of the Dancer as their fighting style many centuries ago, it was almost destiny for Nala to wield it, as she made it her primary weapon. As for her offhand scimitar, through her adventures with her companion Wolfsbane, she came across a lightweight Scimitar of Speed which complemented her main hand perfectly. These became her iconic weapons always by her side, even after the defeat of the Church of the Sun. She gave the names Vengeance and Eclipse to the Dancer's Scimitar and the Scimitar of Speed respectively.
Shortly before the insurrection, Nala discovered a unique weapon lying in the Palace's armory during her training: a double-sided scimitar. Nassaire informed her that it was wielded only by her great-great grandfather and that it has seen more than enough blood for its lifetime, and it should be left alone. Nala's curiosity was not satisfied though. She snuck into her training grounds and picked up the twinblade and tried to wield it. To her surprise, the blade spoke to her. It promised to teach her, but before she could get the chance to do so, the Church of the Sun took over and Nala had to leave the weapon behind. Seven years later, when she returned to her palace after defeating the Church, she looked for the blade but could not find it. For the next three months, Nala chased down all leads to the location of this weapon, and found it in the hands of one last remaining Church of the Sun commander, who seemed to have unlocked its true power. Nala challenged the commander for the blade, and after a brilliant clash of steel and skill, Nala prevailed and liberated the blade back into her hands.
As the years went by, Nala practiced more with the twinblade and discovered its true power - its ability to levitate and spin on its own, like a sharp and deadly boomerang. It contained the spirit of a dragonborn warrior of old, from a time before the Sultanate. Though Nala mainly kept the scimitars by her side, she would still practice with the twinblade when others weren't around. By the year 1430, after the Shroud crisis and the death of her dear companion Wolfsbane, as well as her own death and resurrection, Nala desired an upgrade.
She asked around for the best smith in the Osmad, and found one by the name of Ozzard, a humble red dragonborn living in Bekilk. Nala came as herself and petitioned the smith to forge her a weapon combining the three, a blade that could be used two, or combined as one. At the sight of the twinblade, Ozzard recognized it as his own ancestors' work, and so he believed it to be destiny for him to forge one that can surpass it, though it most certainly wouldn't be easy. The process was painstakingly slow, as Ozzard had to take care to not ruin the existing weapons as he forged them into their new form. Nala also had to supply rare materials for the creation of the weapon. However, the craftsman did not disappoint, and the legendary weapon he created was flawless, so much so that Nala paid him three times what they had originally agreed upon (which was already a significant sum). The result was a weapon that maintained the characteristics of the old weapons, but was now able to be wielded as one single weapon, or split to be dual wielded.
