Kitsune

Kitsune, or fox folk, are vulpine shapeshifters known for their love of both trickery and art. Kitsune possess two forms: that of an attractive human of slender build with salient eyes, and their true form of an anthropomorphic fox. Despite an irrepressible penchant for deception, kitsune prize loyalty and make true companions. They delight in the arts, particularly riddles and storytelling, and settle in ancestral clans, taking their wisdom from both the living and spirits.   Ability Scores: Choose one of:

Size: Medium   Speed: 30 ft.   Creature Type. Fey   Shape Shifter: Kitsune have three forms that they can change between at will. A human like form with fox like ears, a four legged fox form, and a hybrid humanoid form. This is an illusionary ability and as such your stats do not change. You are unable to alter the appearance of each individual form.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.   Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition on yourself.   Fey Magic: You learn the Dancing lights and Minor Illusion cantrips. You also learn the spell Faerie Fire and may cast it for free without using a spell slot. once you cast this spell this way you may not do so again until you finish a long rest. You may also cast it using any 1st level or higher spell slots you have. You must choose either intelligence, wisdom or charisma as your casting modifier at 1st level.

Anatomy

A kitsune has two forms—a single human form and its true form, that of a humanoid fox. In their human forms, kitsune tend toward quickness and lithe beauty. In all forms they possess golden, amber, or brilliant blue eyes. In their true forms, they are covered with a downy coat of auburn fur, although more exotic coloration is possible.

Kitsune society is enigmatic, as kitsune prize loyalty among their friends but delight in good-natured mischief and trickery. Kitsune take pleasure in the pursuit of creative arts and in all forms of competition, especially the telling of stories interwoven with tall tales and falsehoods.

Their reputation as tricksters follows them when they interact with other races. Many kitsune, particularly those who dwell in mixed-race societies, choose to hide their true natures and pose as humans in public.

Kitsune reach adulthood around the age of 15. They live exceptionally long lives. For every 100 years they live they grow a new tail. The oldest recorded kitsune was said to have had 9 tails.
