Port Llast

Summary

Port Llast lies on the southern coast of the Verdan Peninsula in the eastern-most part of the Continent of Kildan. It is currently controlled by The Azure Ascendancy.

History

Founding

Edward Llast founded the town using some of his vast fortune acquired from trade in the capitol of Leonport sometime around the year 433 AO. What started as a simple homestead grew substantially as Edward Llast's wealth grew. He became a sort of baron over the area, his many servants eventually needed housing of their own. Eventually the constant trecks back to Leonport grew too expensive and several shops were founded. Combined with increasing taxes on shipments in the Town of Llast, along with Edward Llasts mind for trade, Llast slowly became a sort of alternate shipping port to avoid much of the levys that traders would otherwise have to pay. Ships would sell their goods to Llast's shipping company, and he would then ship the goods by wagon to the capital city. Despite his wealth, Llast was an overall good man. On his death, his will decreed that the town be turned into a democracy of sorts. The town continued to prosper for many many years until it's eventual ransacking by orcish hordes in the year 735 AO.

Population

Port Llast is home to a few hundred individuals, though at one time there were far more. Most of the population is human, though a few other species are present as well. A large population of sailors drifts in and out of the town.

Notable Figures

Naivara Liadon

Naivara Liadon was a Female High Elf, born 953 AO and died 84 AA at the age of 108. She was the Mayor of Port Llast from 73 AA to 84 AA when she was killed by the dread pirate captain Balasar Urlingscar. Widely disliked, she attempted to gain more wealth and power by striking a deal with the Hissing Dragons, a band of pirates that operated out of a nearby ancient and crumbling tower. She would provide information about valuable ships for them to raid, in return for a cut of the profits. Attempted to slay the RATs after they discovered her misdeeds.

Tessel Amblecrown

Tessel is a Female Human, born 39 AA and is currently 45 years old. She became the de-facto mayor of Port Llast after Naivara was murdered and her misdeeds laid bare. She is well loved by the townsfolk and seems to be doing a good job of turning the town's luck around.

Kuori "Gutcleaver" Thuliaga

Kuori "Gutcleaver" Thuliaga is a Male Goliath born 46 AA and is currently 38 years old. He acted as Naivara's bodyguard until things turned sour and then disappeared.

Oskar Rockseeker

Oskar Rockseeker is a Male Dwarf born in 10 AA and is currently 74 years old. He is the owner and proprietor of The Scowling Squid tavern in Port Llast. Known to be a jolly fellow, he has a kind heart and often would take in orphaned children.

Thokk Chopp

Thokk Chopp is a Male Orc born 48 AA and is currently 36 years old. Thokk was an orcish warrior who, along with his band of orc raiders, managed to sneak past the defenses of Joren's Hold and attack Port Llast in 75 AA. The raiding party was slaughtered, however Thokk was found afterwards, a large dent in his head seemingly from a warhammer of sorts. Thokk was cared for and brought back to health by the mother of Port Llast's butcher, Gracey Blackwood, despite the fact that his party had killed both her son and daughter-in-law. Thokk's mental capacity after the incident was brought down to that of a child, however he was shown to be a gifted butcher. After Gracey died of some illness in 82 AA, Gracey's grandchild Marcon Blackwood continued to care for him. During the pirate raid in 84 AA, Thokk fought valiantly alongside the RATs and helped to fend of the attacking hordes.

Biri Urlingscar

Biri Urlingscar is a Female Amethyst Dragonborn born in 51 AA and is currently 31 years old. She is currently the guard captain in Port Llast, her estranged brother was the dread pirate captain Balasar Urlingscar whom she helped defeat with the assistance of the RATs.

Zook Dargle Halfhand

Zook Dargle Halfhand is a Male Gnome born in 956 AO and is currently 105 years old. He's kind of the town kook but is possibly one of the most gifted carpenters in all of Kildan.

Location

Port Llast is a port town located in a strategic natural harbor on the southern coast of the Rech Peninsula. It's made up of three islands, two large and one small. Rope and wooden bridges connect everything to the mainland.

Notable Buildings and Establishments

Town Hall

The town hall located in Port Llast was recently remodeled and redecorated by the previous Mayor, Naivara Liadon.

Town Barracks

A small two story building near the town hall with bunks for the guards and jail cells for criminals.

The Scowling Squid Tavern

The only tavern in Port Llast. It's a two story ramshackle building that, despite it's rough exterior, is actually quite cozy inside. Roaring fires and delicious food can always be found here for the weary traveler or sailor. The tavern is owned and operated by Oskar Rockseeker.

ChopChop Shop Butchery

The ChopChop Shop butchery is run by Thokk Chopp and Marcon Blackwood. It's fairly well run with high quality meats. Marcon primarily does the front of house work while Thokk does the butchering.

Whittler's Nook Carpentry

The Whittler's Nook is an interesting place. The extremely gifted owner, Zook Dargle Halfhand, has carved and whittled away at every piece of wood inside and out, creating beautiful sculptures and pieces of art.

Fisheries

Those unfortunate enough to have lost their jobs in the economic downturn of the town have resorted to fishing, erecting ramshackle huts on the beaches to help catch their quarry.

Lighthouse Wares General Store

Lighthouse Wares is a general store located in Port Llast and run by a pair of married halflings named Finnan and Faylile Greenbottle. Some would probably describe Finnan as a hoarder, but he does have some valuable items in this quanit two-story shop.  

Oceanwood Graveyard

On the northern tip of the northern-most island sits the Oceanwood Graveyard. A once beautiful place that's grown dark and dreary with the economic downturn that's befallen Port Llast. Cefrey Lackman was once the Undertaker here, however he was slain by ghouls in 84 AA. The RATs avenged him at the behest of Biri Urlingscar, slaying the monstrous creatures.     The Twisted Horseshoe Blacksmith The Twisted Horseshoe blacksmith is the primary source of tools and metal equipment in the town of Port Llast. As such, the shop along with the family that runs it, is relatively well off. The Shopkeepers Anton Astorio and Faila Astorio have a daughter named Talia. They take good care of the people of the town and have good hearts. During one of the earlier pirate rates in 84 AA, Anton's wife and daughter were taken by pirates and brought to their hideout in the ancient crumbling elven tower on the coast. The RATs managed to rescue them and return them to Anton, much to his appreciation.  

The Prancing Donkey Stables

Outside of town, on an overgrown and unkept farm, sits the Prancing Donkey stables. A single orphaned child named Rory Rockforth tends to the horses and does his best to maintain the fields.  

The Shrine to the Allgods

Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of town of Port Llast is this odd shrine that sits on the edge of a cliff overlooking the harbor. Given the relatively small nature of the town, and the constant travelers and sailors that come through, it didn't make sense to make places of worship for each and every potential deity that people may need to worship. Instead, a statue was erected that would symbolically represent any deity that somebody wished to worship. It stood as a tall cloaked figure, featureless with it's blank face pointed down.
