Session 4: The Journey Begins Report

General Summary

The session started with the party preparing to leave Fyre. Kalissta got her reward from a hungover priest. They stocked up on supplies before leaving. The first day on the road was uneventful; the group traveled on the main highway, alongside the Tanin Nahr, to Tharu where they ended their journey for the night. The group found a nice dragonborn granny to bunk with for the night. Before they settled, however, Kallista and Zyl went to a local inn to ask some questions. While they were there, they heard there was something going on with the well in Khasut, the party's destination. The party also learned about some of the taxation and guarding of the Tanin Nahr.   The next day, the party began their journey away from the Tanin Nahr. They met some people traveling away from Khasut who were desperate for water. Kallista gave them a little bit before the groups went their separate ways. Shortly after, Roisin found an oasis in the distance but was convinced to stay on the road. Next on their journey was another group of people. These ones were also desperate for some water though they were a bit more forceful about their requests. A fight broke out which the party quickly handled. They looted the bodies and continued to Khasut.   When they reached the town, they found a green dragonborn walking through the small town. He told them where the tavern was, and admitted he was the local healer. The party then split. Leon went to the tavern to meet with his contact, Takarut. The two discussed what they knew. Takarut mentioned that there was supposed to be a fort of some kind in the local area, but he hadn't managed to find it. To make matter worse, the day after he arrived, the well started poisoning people. Meanwhile, the rest of the party tied a rope around Greg and threw him down the well so that he could see what was down there. Greb found a zombie missing some legs and a hole in the side of the well leading to a dusty room. Shortly before he was murdered, again, by a zombie, Roisin pulled him out of the well and he quickly went to sleep in the inn.   The rest of the party soon followed, and they woke up bright and early the next day. (Meanwhile the DM cried because her mystery was already solved.) The party decided to all throw themselves down the well and explore the dusty room to see if they could find whatever treasure Takarut was searching for (he did not reveal what it was). Before that could happen, a dust storm enveloped the town led by two dust mephits. After a quick battle, the party carried through with their plan and climbed down the well. None of them died though Greg did fall and was attacked by the zombie again. The rest made it through the hole with little trouble.

Travel along the Tanin Nahr is heavily taxed, especially around Iritu. It is rare for merchant ships to be allowed to travel along the river. If you are caught sailing down it without permission, the wizards and guards watching along the river will burn you and your boat to the ground.
