Allegheny Irregulars
A mercenary group comprised of various galactic expatriates and individuals of unknown origin. Led by Ver Sayles native Remy Duciel, the mercs were all veterans of interplanetary conflict, but their primary “contract” was the liberation of Ver Sayles from occupation by the Remnants.
Structure
Remy Duciel is a founding member and the official Commanding Officer of the Allegheny Irregulars, but the unit functions as a collective of equals, with every support staff member and mechanic's opinion having the same weight as the most senior officers. This has created a unit cohesion stronger than Kevlar, as each and every Irregular can rest assured the "major players" will always move with their best interests in mind and heart.
Culture
- Mercenaries are normally such a varied cast and crew that outfits are often devoid of a singular cultural identity. The Irregulars, however, are nearly all cast-offs and afterthoughts of the traditional military establishment, lending to a common if chaotic shared bond between them.
- Commander Duciel's family motto is simply one alien word, "Upanje." A word from a long-dead language meaning "hope," upanje was a central philosophy contributing to the outfit's camaraderie. No outcast, washout, or disciplinary case was beyond hope, as long as they maintained their own hope of finding their way forward.
- Though often described as "pirates" and individuals of "dubious moral character," the Irregulars never take a contract that could cause the exploitation of civilians or oppression of those undeserving of ire. Speculations as to this odd clause among mercenaries point to the extensive history of regular military service ended by insubordination among the Irregulars, and the likeliehood one or several members have sacrificed careers to avoid unnecessary aggression against non-combatants.
Public Agenda
The Irregulars have been the public face of several home-grown resistance efforts against Remnant occupation since returning to the planet following a decade's exile.
