The Redringing

Also known as the Red Horizon Event or the Red Sky, the Redringing is believed to be a natural event occuring on Vequesia in which red-tinted gas "trickls" from the the planet's smallest moon onto its second, larger satelite and, eventually, onto Vequesia itself. Named for its tendency to to form in "rings" around and within the planet's atmosphere, the Redringing occurs roughly twice a year and has been occuring for the length of recorded history. Even the few surviving records of the Lost Mortade Empire speak of the Redringing, confirming that the phenomonon has been occuring for at least the past 5500 years.

Public Perception

Due to the strange nature of the event and the foreboding shade that the Redrings are, there have always been legends and myths concerning these happenings. From tales of cursed children to those staring entire towns disappearing overnight, the Redringing has certainly earned a reputation amongst superstitious and artful folk.

Despite any threat of such curses, boils, disease, or other afflictions and ailments, the events have for centuries piqued the interest of scholars, known amongst their own kind as Parolians and amongst other scholars as Ringers. Their research had brought out various models of the transition of gas from one astronomical body to another but has not yet detected the source of the gas, nor how such a small natural satelite might produce so much for so long.

No longer sailors know their way,

Nor bats know by ear,

Odd eggs chicken lay,

Just once twice a year.

But children scream

And heroes shriek

Of tales of the Red Moon

What comes next for sure will make you swoon!

— A folk bard song
