The Spears of the Waste

The Spears were comprised of around six hundred units of elite infantry.

Each member was kitted in a heavy metal breastplate, chain leggings, shin and wrist guards, a round metal helm, and a round shield.

Each member was equipped with two short spears for close quarters fight, and a lance for use against a infantry or cavalry charge. Officers were permitted use of a Lordsword or Greatsword.

Each member was given use, if the need should require it, of a Chiton.

The Spears had two Officers: A Commander, and a Second. It was the job of both to command the troops while they were deployed in the field, but the entire formation took orders directly from the Empress of The Valcoran Empire alone.

Once a member of the formation, each member was required to uphold a daily training regiment of hand to hand combat, spear training, footwork and how to move as a singe whole unit, and how to fight in varying terrain.

With one exception, each member of The Spears of the Waste were required to have served at least fifteen years in the Valcoran military, and were personally selected to join by the Commander and the Second before being allowed to join.   All recruits were natural born Torrese Humans.

The Spears of the Waste were founded first as an elite guard unit to protect The Upper Wastes. Comprised mostly of the more elite of the Valcoran Empresses personal guard, they eventually grew to number several hundred elite former military members who wanted to continue to serve their Empress after retiring.   They were mostly used to protect The Wastes from bandits and pirates that may attempt to set up within the region. They were so effective that they were eventually given the dictate to hunt down and snuff out any such groups that were found within the empires borders.   The Eltaran-Valcoran Conflict was the ednd of their formation, as they were killed to the man defending the retreat of the Empress Verona Elmahdy from the onslaught of the Eltaran army at The Field of Ruin.   The Empress has publicly stated that they will never be rebuilt.

The Spears of the Waste were exclusively loyal to the Empress, to the point that they were actually removed from the Valcoran Military as a whole to prevent any possible conflict that may arise at any given chance.
