The Risen
In the year 8332 of the Fragmented Era, the Fissure of Xocrin tore open, and the Risen poured out. The catastrophic event marked the beginning of what history now remembers as the Rising, a dark chapter that plunged Veilinia into chaos and despair.
The Risen are bipedal reptilian beasts boasting mighty weapons that only they can wield. Much is unknown about them, like their origins and life cycles, but they have been seen to be very adaptable to their surroundings and unconditionally murderous.
The pure strength of the Risen has made armor in Veilinia entirely redundant. Because of this, people who fight them, Legion or not, prioritize mobility and never block straight-on with few exceptions.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Risen have four limbs and are bipedal. They are much larger than the animals they seem to take after, but their specific structure differs depending on the variation. Crocodylia types are large with bulky muscles, looking similar to crocodiles and alligators. Lacertilia types are usually smaller in both height and width and share a likeness with lizards and geckos. Testudinidae types are similar in build to Crocodylia but have even stronger jaws and a shell, looking much like bipedal tortoises.
Biological Traits
Crocodylia-type
Crocodylia-type Risen are the most common variation, reminiscent of crocodiles and alligators in appearance. These formidable beings are heavily built and equipped with massive weapons like battle axes and war hammers, designed for brutal close combat. Their imposing physique allows them to serve as the vanguard of Risen formations.Lacertilia-type
This type is a lot lighter and smaller in both height and physique in comparison to the section of Risen mentioned first. They usually manage smaller weapons, generally projectile weapons like bows and throwing weapons or daggers. Their tactics involve maintaining a distance from their prey, making use of their agility to flank opponents when terrain permits.Testudinidae-type
This type of Risen is similar to that of the Crocodylia-type ones, although they're much larger and bulkier for the drawback of being very slow. They generally wield the same types of weapons, the primary difference being their powerful bite. All Testudinidae Risen can effectively bite a human in half with little difficulty and are just overall stronger than the crocodile-like Risen, but their primary drawback is just that they're not very fast. They are rarer than the Crocodylia type, but will still be found at the front if not fighting on its own.Ecology and Habitats
The Risen suffer from an uncontrollable hunger that leads to them overhunting. They do not stay in one place for long, as they rapidly expand in search of food. Anywhere there are animals, the Risen will live and kill.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Risen are exclusively carnivores, though they have been seen to drain the blood out of their prey by crushing it over their mouths. They waste nothing from a corpse, hardly even leaving bones.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The Risen group together to raid, but aside from that, they seem to mind their own business between each other, not interacting with one another unless they plan to plunder somewhere soon. When a monarch is nearby, the Risen will grow more aggressive toward nearby humans.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Currently, the Risen can be found all over East Veilinia and outnumber humans.
Average Intelligence
Although seemingly intelligent enough to use battle formations and to use fire to smoke out prey, the Risen will try to kill anything that resists or flees. They are also capable of taking over areas as their own camps, but they don't build anything, they only use what's already there.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Risen have brought to Veilinia the strongest magic it has ever seen, labeled a decree. These Risen are titled Monarch , and the decree may or may not be obviously magical. Some cases allow forms of telekinesis while others are just physical improvements. Humans can take a decree if they kill the monarch who wields it.
