Mellren
Mellren is the central city of the small duchy of the same name. Superficially it may be surprising that such a small city holds such significance, and the appearance of the town truly does not reflect it's elevated status. However, the nearby hills hold the largest gold mines in the realm and the ruling family has adroitely used this to give themselves a secure position of power.

The second born son. Rebellious and widely rumoured to be cursed. Recently went missing from the palace and
Ianira
The daughter. Beautiful and adored by the population. Fiercely loyal to her father. In appearance she seems to be in her mid 20s, and the population does not seem to think more about it. However, talking to the elders in the town it seems that she has been around much longer, and no one actually seem to recall her as a child.
The head of the family is a vampire. He has maintained this a secret by using his own family and the uncanny resemblance his sons most often has to himself to fake a lineage of dukes. In truth the same duke has ruled the city for the last 300 years. He has infact been using a combination of magic and sheer cold bloodedness to murder his son's, fake his own death and that of the rest of the family and take his son's place as heir to the throne.
This has lead to the family having a reputation as cursed and the locals have a tradition of drinking to the dukal family's health, known as the Cup of Vigor. During recent years the mood in town has soured and the tradition is now only observed when in the presence of the town guard.
Cynfael has now been ruling in the current form for approximately 40 years and considers it close to time for another "transition of power". However, recently Cynfael has had issues with his plans since his second son Lucidas has been acting increasingly erratically, culminating in his imprisonment in the palace and subsequent disappearance.
