Galactic Common

The official language of universal trade and politics, Galactic Common is especially prevalent among The Freeholds, governmental leaders, and those accustomed to regular interplanetary travel or commerce outside of their home faction. Many historians believe Galactic was an invention of the Vardan, much like the Stardate Calendar, although due to their nomadic lifestyles very little remains in the historical records to verify this hypothesis.   The language itself is energetic in tone, although most speakers make certain to speak slowly enough to enunciate properly and thereby ensure an accurate interpretation. It has borrowed heavily from other languages across the universe, while time and its wide geographical range of use has smoothed out the harsh edges and difficult to pronounce sounds. Galactic is therefore considered easy to pronounce but tricky to master, due to its lack of cohesive grammatical rules and pronunciations. It is not uncommon to find people who speak fluent Galactic but never bothered to tackle its complex and contradictory spelling rules. Legal contracts across the Freeholds are more often written in precise Legionese, with concurrence from all parties.
