Starlit Steppe

The Starlit Steppe lies directly to the east of the Rainbow Coast, but other than their proximity, the areas couldn't be more different. While the lake keeps the Coast temperate and humid, the Great Sea of Sand does the opposite to the Steppe neighboring it.

As the climate is relatively harsh and the land poor, only a few people live there. Those residing here, due to the unfavorable conditions, live close to fortified city walls, preferably inside them. But while the land is poor for growing crops, the ground below is filled with valuable ore and gems, making mining the second most common occupation in the area. And fallen meteorites have made mining even more lucrative.

The most common occupation of Starlit Steppe is the military. The Savannah is the border of not just Rusterov, but the entirety of Western Varzzen. To this day, Shadewoven attacks are still very much a reality. Despite its low wealth and population, this gateway role gives the region significant political power.

Rusterov isn't the first ruler of the Starlit Steppe. Initially, the ancient queendom of Chereb ruled the land, when it was still fertile. Thanks to the possibility of Shadewoven attacks, only a few attempts to explore the ruins of the queendom have been made. Who knows what secrets may be hiding just outside the inhabited areas?
