Immergo
Immergo is both a capital and a home, though it looks like neither. At first glance, it appears to be a decaying cathedral, nothing more, with sunken stones covered in moss and putrid water sloshing against rotting wood. If inspected closely, it is possible to see the broken stained glass that once proudly depicted the symbol of the Order Pantheon.
But Order is not welcome here.
Passing through the permanently opened waterlogged doors reveals a vast hallway that should not exist, based on the outside structure. Magic permeates Immergo and allows it to expand continuously, much like the swamps it calls home. The hallway and all other rooms visited are filled with a stench of rot. Death has made this place its own. It has sunken its claws into everything that dwells here, both organic and inorganic. It is inescapable, not that Immergo’s inhabitants would seek to do so.
For those who live within its stone walls, namely the Spawn of the Wurm, their servants, and their most trusted priests, the sunken cathedral is a home like any other. It boasts living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, libraries, chambers of devotion, laboratories, and a prison. The location of each room changes every day, with only the vast hallway that leads to the outside remaining steadfast.
Living Rooms
Places where the weary can relax. Couches can be laid upon as servants bring spoiled water and other delicacies to indulge in between feeding hours. It is also where more informal conversations can happen and where the Spawn of the Wurm practices their speeches.
Kitchens
Some of the most foul-smelling rooms in Immergo. The floors are covered in swamp water, and food can be left on the counters in rotting buckets for weeks or months before it is deemed ready to be served. The kitchens are used mainly by servants when preparing meals for the Spawn of the Wurm and their cardinals.
Bedrooms
There are enough bedrooms to house the 50 inhabitants of the sunken cathedral. The biggest and most grandiose belongs to the Spawn of the Wurm. It is said that a window within their bedroom leads to the holy mangrove under which they pupated.
Libraries
Books that delve into dark and forbidden magic and ancient religious tomes litter the walls of the libraries. They are utterly unorganized, with only those who use the libraries daily able to make sense of what to look for and where. The libraries are the driest rooms in the cathedral if only to preserve their contents.
Chambers of Devotion
The only rooms that can be visited by temporary dwellers of Immergo. They are rooms that almost every muscan dreams of seeing in their lifetime, for it means that one has been blessed with the chance to interact with the Spawn of the Wurm privately.
Laboratories
Only the Spawn of the Wurm and a few of their servants are allowed within the laboratories. They and the prisoners that are brought there never return. On days when swamp water overflows on almost all cathedral floors, a blood-tainted trail seeps from underneath the laboratories’ doors.
Prison
The prison within Immergo is not to be used to house outsiders. Instead, it is the final dwelling place of muscans who have lost their way. Those who are considered irredeemable by all except the Spawn of the Wurm, who know there exists another way for the traitors to repent.
