Approximately one millennium ago, during the zenith of the Iron Empire, a now-forgotten pantheon presided over Aurumreach. These deities ultimately repudiated the empire they once governed, having failed to curb its systemic corruption despite repeated interventions through their priesthoods. In a final act of defiance, the pantheon collectively orchestrated a cataclysmic event known as the Cleansing, before severing all ties to the mortal realm.
The survivors of the Cleansing, formerly enslaved and oppressed populations, were left to reconstruct society without divine guidance. Attempts to venerate the deities of the Empire or those of their own homelands yielded no divine response. Instead, new pantheons emerged to fill the absence. The Hidden Mysteries coalesced within the western wetlands, the Clan of Martyrs took root among the northern fjords, and the Star Shepherds manifested among the nomadic herders of the eastern grasslands, each reflecting the struggles and aspirations of their followers.
