Quruk

Quruk is the capital of Nusha.

Demographics

Quruk is a very diverse place, having a collection of different peoples and other creatures calling it home. The most common humanoid species being Humans, Dracons, and Halflings, with most other species not being uncommon. Only about half of Qurukians are native to Quruk, with the others visiting for it's science, philosophy, arts, and abundance of trade. Quruk has a distinct wealth classes, with a large middle and lower class, and a smaller upper class that's mostly inhabited by the crime and merchantile families within it's borders. Many lower class citizens are artists or laborers, such as stone workers, dock workers, fisherpeople, craftspeople, or construction workers. Many middle class citizens are Streetmages, researchers, or teachers.

Government

Quruk is run by the Emir, the chosen ruler of the Sovereign. The government has tariffs on most purchases from overseas, as well as commerical and property taxes. Additionally, the Soverign's High Court determines the law of the land, for both Quruk and for all of Nusha.

Defences

Quruk has massive towered walls as well as a powerful standing army, and a naval force. Additionally, any Port Haven pirates in the area are contracted to fight for and help Quruk in a time of need.

Infrastructure

Quruk has massive shipyards, trade roads, large amounts of land, as well as a large "under-city" known as Noctu.

Districts

Quruk is divided into five larger formal districts:

Uptown District

Uptown is where most of the night life is in Quruk, along with most of the gang activity. This section of the city is known for it's abundance of living space, newer buildings made of brick, wood, and stone, and an extremely active night life. The Uptown District is the The Kalhan Family's territory.

The Uptown Redlight

The Uptown Redlight is a long street filled with brothels, bars, and gambling houses.

The Fashion District

Quruk's fashion district is located in Uptown. This district is several city blocks wide with all sorts of textile production, fashion designers, and weavers ready for their next job.

The Uptown Park

The Uptown Park is a block wide and three block long. It is filled sand and dirt roads, thick palm trees, fruit and flowered bushes, and small ponds with lily pads and bulrush.

The Uptown Market

The Uptown Market is an open plaza with a collection of rotating carts.

The Port District

The Port District is a bustling and active area in the city, known for it's ports, seafood, and commerce. Additionally, many people live in this area. The Port District has points of control for the three crime groups, but due to the locations importance, the .

The Arts District

The Arts District is an active and vibrant area, known for it's schools and institutions.

The Old Town District

The Old Town District is the older section of Quruk. Shorter buildings, made from adobe or sandstone, line the cobbled streets. The Old Town District is known for historic sights. The Old Town District is the territory of Nativa 0.

Nocta

Nocta is an "under-city" built underneath Quruk. It is known for it's cool temperature, night life, and abundance of nocturnal people and creatures. The only way to access Nocta is through the Uptown District, so it is the Kalhan's territory. However, only Malika uses this territory for Seeker activity.

The Kalhan Complex

Along the eastern wall of Nocta is a series of apartment complexes. Each one of these apartments is owned by the Kalhan Family.  

The Hanging Lantern District

The Hanging Lantern District is a small section of Nocta used for district-wide celebrations.

Architecture

Quruk is known for it's minarets, domes, muqarnas vaulting, and arches, with buildings made of adobe, sandstone, and stone, with newer buildings made of wood or even coral. Blankets and different types of colored cloth are hung from open windows and above streets. Most of the roads in the city are paved sandstone bricks. Streetposts with lanterns and the occasional street name accompany the buildings along the roads.
