The Trespasser

Art by Dan Scott

"Not much is known about the Trespasser. We're not even sure if that is its name, or if it even has a name. But we do know that its presence disrupts divine and arcane magic alike for reasons we do not, as yet, understand. For my part, I believe anywhere it lingers, ill omens follow." ~Vorash Koramar, High Inquisitor of the Sunfire Sentinels.   There exist, between the planes, pathways. Hidden roads that connect to doorways leading into unknown realms that even the Gods are cannot see. The Trespasser is said to wander these pathways. Coming and going from the High Heavens, the Nine Hells, and every plane in between. There is debate among the various clergies and arcane circles as to who, or what, the Trespasser is. What is universally agreed upon is that its presence, almost a sinking feeling in the pit of one's stomach, is felt before tragedy strikes. Be that natural disasters, declarations of war, or the assassination of key figures. The Trespasser can be felt, or sometimes even seen. A shadow flickering just on the edge of your sight. Vanishing when you turn to focus on it. In addition to this, arcane and divine magic react in strange ways to the presence of the Trespasser. Incantations, even though uttered properly, will produce a completely different spel, or fail to produce a result all together. Divine chants meant to be heard in Celestial are uttered in Infernal instead and answered thusly by beings in the Nine Hells. Teleportation and travel magics will send the users to different destinations, or even into solid objects, creating an amalgamation of solid stone and mortal flesh.   There are many who claim to have seen the Trespasser full on and describe it as a hunched, gaunt, faceless creature of pale skin and sunken features. All accounts of those who claim to have witnessed its passing agree on the description, adding that it is faceless and does not speak. One witness described it as "Covered in a cloak of human skin and wrapped in chains and locks. Moving in a strange, jerking pattern." The same witness described a sensation of cold nothingness that overcame her. As if nothing in the world mattered and all she wanted to do at that very moment was lay down and sleep for all the years of her life.   From time to time cults devoted to the Trespasser pop up in the dark underground networks of Vanigraad. Coming and going like the wind on a dark winter's night leaving empty beds and empty houses in their wake. They have become known as the Cult of the Faceless by the common peoples. Though the clergies of Korhal refuse to lend legitimacy to this cult by naming it. Regardless of what officials and common folk wish to call them, their coming bodes as ill as sightings of the Trespasser itself.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

The goals of the Trespasser are as mysterious as the creature itself. The Cult of the Faceless however, believe that the Trespasser desires the coming of a new Confluence and the release of the Matron of Chaos. Believing that it will release the world of suffering by putting an end to the curse of flesh.
