Gnome

Appearance

Gnomes are among the smaller humanoid races of the world, ranging from 3-4 ft. on average. Their skin, hair, and eye colors are as varied as Humans.

Biology

Gnomes originate from a similar genetic line as Halflings, but whereas Halflings have genetic ties to Elves, Gnomes have genetic ties to Dwarves. They reproduce in mammalian fashion, and have a gestation cycle that is nearly identical to Humans. Gnomes mature at the same rate as Humans, reaching full adulthood within 30 years. They live longer than Humans, up to 500 years old, with the oldest gnomes living nearing 600 years.

History

Gnomes are widespread, having been known to make their homes anywhere in Vallonde, though they prefer temperate lands over arid ones. Their smaller stature, and ability to thrive underground, or in the deepest corners of the woods allowed them to thrive more than most races under the Rule of Dragons in the 1st Epoch, and similarly during the Tyranny of Sorcerers in the 2nd Epoch. After the Great Purge of the 3rd Epoch, and subsequent turmoil of the 4th Epoch, Gnomes began to emerge from their hidden corners of the world and into society. Their free spirited attitude naturally lead them to travel and settle where they felt most at home. Their thirst for life often manifests as ambition and a workhorses drive, making them valuable crafters for any nations to have. After their rapid emergence into the world following the 2nd Epoch, their greatest community formed in the area that is now the Guen Province of the New Sovereignty, with a shared racial identity tied to Hantzu culture. Gnomes have been the most devoutly Masoritanist over the centuries, maintaining a strong racial, cultural faith that has endured since the 1st Epoch.   In modern times, many Gnomes have migrated to the Tensun Trading Company, whose boundless growth and worldwide influence seems to excite and suit Gnomish sensibilities. Many have also found their home in Meridian, trading their traditionally spiritual sensibilities for scholarly aspirations.
