Fire Cuff
Lia did not want to hand over the bracelet, but what choice did she have? She slipped it off and held it out for him.
His eyes grew even wider and his face paled. He glanced nervously around the room before reaching out for it. His fingers shook as they hovered just above the blood-red ruby cabochon for a long moment before he gingerly picked up the bracelet to examine it more closely.
“I've been searching my entire life for even the smallest bit of information about this relic, and you walk in wearing it like it's any other bracelet.”
He traced his fingers along the engravings on both the inside and outside of the cuff. Lia watched in silence as he studied the strange markings inside. As she watched him examining it, she contemplated asking him about the way it called to her when not wearing it, a nagging sensation at the back of her mind.
“It seems to have been made specifically for your type of magic,” he finally muttered, pulling her out of her musings.
“What does it do?” She traced the outer edge of the cuff with one finger.
“It acts as a sort of magical siphon.”
Lia yanked back her hand, eliciting a small chuckle from the librarian.
“It only takes a tiny amount of magical energy at a time, an amount that is easy to replenish. The wearer shouldn’t even notice it. Then, you can draw from the stored energy when you need it.” He caressed the magical runes on the inside of the bracelet with his thumb. “It’s amazing really,” he continued, his voice tinged with awe. “This is very difficult, very old magic.”
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The interior of the silver cuff is engraved with mage runes. Scholars and historians have studied the runes and determined the cuff channels energy into the gemstone for storage. However, they do not understand the purpose or function of all of the runes.
