Belt of Vaka

"I already lost this family once. I sure as hell ain't losing it again." - Thrivas Foxgard, Fifth Oracle of Battle
An ornate golden belt inlaid with gems and intricate filigree. Originally created by Vaka and given to Orazio Aster, First Oracle of Storms. Wielded by the Sparkborn during the final years of the War of the Gods, this is arguably the most infamous of all the Artifacts. Responsible for the single-handed defeat of Surtr, The Everburning in the aftermath of the Sundering, it was wielded by Orazio to great effect for years before being given to Thrivas Foxgard, Fifth Oracle of Battle to assist in his fight against the curse blighting the Barrens. After the Team of Many Things travelled to the past and helped the ancient Oracle of Battle cleanse the source of the curse, he used the Artifact to create the city of Kaz'ad, where he ultimately hid the Belt. 1500 years later, as the Team returns to their present day, they find the Belt, finally accessible, allowing them to continue on their quest to revive Vaka. One of the legendary Artifacts of Vaka.

History

Created by the Creator Goddess of Wild Magic, Vaka on the eve of her death. Given to Orazio Aster, First Oracle of Storms. Arguably the most well known Artifact (save for the Godkiller Greatsword), it was wielded to great effect by the First Oracle of Storms for nearly 1500 years. With it's power combined with the power of the Crown of Vaka, he used it to defeat a number of Gods during in the Immortal War, including Surtr and Odr. As the war wound down, Orazio settled into the life of a protector and ruler, acting as leader of the Apollyonic Grand Reserve and King of Apollyon, spreading the influence of the Grand Reserve into the cold north from the capital of Ljustad.
As the centuries passed, Orazio was eventually approached by Thrivas Foxgard, Third Oracle of Battle and Mara Magnolia, First Oracle of Souls. Thrivas, seeking to finally rid the continent known as the Barrens of the curse that had plagued it for centuries, explained his plight to the Sparkborn. Orazio eventually agreed to part with the Belt, on the condition that he wouldn't do anything stupid with it. Unfortunately, Thrivas is an idiot. They traveled, alone, to the Barrens in search of the curse.
Months of wandering and battling undead pass before he finds the source: The World Serpent, Jormungandr, has been tainted by the sickening aura of Hela, The Inevitable End. Although the power granted by the Belt was great, their attempt to defeat the serpent was in vain, as Mara was killed, and Thrivas was mortally wounded. He ran, seeking only to live. Jormungandr followed. Their battle continued to rage all across the continent, destroying everything in their path. As the Oracle of Battle grew tired, and seeing no other way, he used the Belt's power to entomb Jormungandr, at the cost of his life. The explosive burst of Aether could be felt all across Valakadyn. In the wake of the explosion, a new mountain was formed from the remains of the World Serpent, along with the city underneath it: Kaz'ad, The Fourth Sister. The center of the city pays tribute to Thrivas' sacrifice, his massive figure solidified in stone, and an enormous representation of the Belt of Vaka decorating it's waist. Campaign One - The Team of Many Things
This is the history you knew. What history didn't account for, however, is the Team of Many Things. After being sent back in time to the Barrens by Karnatis to retrieve the Belt, the Team finds Thrivas and Mara at the beginning of their journey, alongside Gob the Goblin, Mariposa Karavala, Third Oracle of Gravity, and Ergeaux Lyon, The Oracle of Illusion. The Team reveals Thrivas and Mara's fates in their time, and the two vow that it will not happen this time. After the Team finds Jormungandr, they defeat the Titan with ease, changing the course of history. Thrivas promises to leave the Belt where they can find it as they take their leave toward the Karavala Sovereignty and back into the present.

Thrivas and Mara, now free to live the rest of their lives, receive a visit from Karnatis Seradz, The Oracle of Time, who instructs them to keep a low profile in history, or be erased. The two, scared for their lives, agree. Mara wanders the world, eventually passing her power to another, and eventually dying of old age. Thrivas, however, lived luxuriously. He founded the city of Kaz'ad in the place the mountain would have stood, and enjoyed a comfortable life as it's ruler after passing his power off to another. He fathered way too many kids, creating a lineage of vas' that stretches into the present. On his death bed, Thrivas cast one last spell, hiding the Belt of Vaka within the head of the statue of himself at the center of town, accessible only to the Team. 1500 years later, the Team of Many Things returned to present day Kaz'ad, as Ulesis retrieved the Belt, vowing to wield it in the name of vengeance.
