The Pools of Anen
Hidden by myth and mist, the Pools of Anen are believed to be the ancient origin point of the Mistkin. Long before the construction of Pluvia or the training grounds of Saelnreach, it is said the first Mistkin rose from the mirrored waters of Anen—not born of flesh, but summoned by the joining of rain, resonance, and memory.
The Pools of Anen were not a city or village, but a natural basin nestled deep within the cloud-hung valleys, where rainfall never ceased and the Veil was thickest. In times of silence, the waters reflected not the sky, but emotion itself—grief, joy, longing, and ancestral echoes. When a person stepped into the waters, the Pools responded, shaping what they carried into something living. Some say the first Mistkin were born this way: not as children, but as memory made flesh.
Over time, small shelters and song-pillars were raised around the pools. Rituals emerged—echo offerings, resonance harmonies, storm dances. But Anen was always more than a place—it was a listening presence. It chose who could find it, and it never stayed the same. Some believe it vanished before the Fracturing. Others think it sank into the Hollow, or that its waters now flow deep beneath Pluvia, guiding the dreams of those who hear the Veil. Others still think its just dried up and many people have been where the pools were without realizing.
Though no Mistkin alive today has stood on its shores, the Pools of Anen remain sacred. Echoweavers speak of it in riddles. Veiltouched dream of its light. And every rain-soaked ritual begins with a whisper: “Let Anen remember me.”
