Teren, the Echoheart

"Not all children come from the body. Some are born of memory, silence, and song.”

The Echoheart role was created after the Veilbinding, born out of necessity to keep Pluvia hidden and to preserve Mistkin memory after the fall of Saelenreach. Teren, already a powerful Echoweaver, stepped into the role when the Veil first formed—chosen by it during the initial offering.

Teren may not be known for a large biological family—but to the Mistkin, he is the spiritual father of an entire generation.

Over nearly a century as Echoheart, Teren has:

  • Trained dozens of Echoweavers who consider him a mentor, guide, and emotional anchor
  • Personally overseen hundreds of Echo Offerings, offering quiet guidance through the Veil’s acceptance—or rejection
  • Been credited as a key spiritual influence in many Veiltouched awakenings, especially those who experience their calling through dreams and grief
  • Even adopted orphaned or Hollowing-affected Mistkin, offering them memory-shelter within the Veil's resonance or beginning their training as an Echoweaver

In Mistkin culture, these acts are forms of parenthood—the kind that go deeper than blood. He is often called Father Teren in reverent tones, though he never asks for it.

Some of his students have taken to calling themselves the Echoborn. While Teren is deeply respected, some younger Mistkin question the wisdom of one figure holding the Veil's memory for so long. Others fear that too many trace their emotional lineage back to him, creating a kind of cultural bottleneck. If he were to vanish, what would remain?

And still, others whisper that Teren has a biological child, hidden or unacknowledged, whose Echo Offering has never been accepted… and may never be.
