Lumaspores

A bioluminescent fungal species that feeds on emotion—and gently gives something back.

In the shaded groves at the misty edges of Pluvia, where fog clings even between rainfall, you may catch the faintest flicker of bluish light. These are not lanterns, nor fireflies, but Lumaspores—a unique fungal species known not just for their glow, but for the curious bond they share with the Veiltouched.

Lumaspores appear as soft, translucent mushrooms with stems like woven glass and gently pulsing caps that shift from blue to violet. Though they can grow independently, they flourish near homes, resting spots, or pathways used by the Veiltouched—those rare individuals who have drunk Tears of the Deep and emerged changed.

The spores do not draw nutrients from soil alone. Instead, they feed on ambient emotional resonance—especially the quiet, lingering feelings carried by the Veiltouched: grief, longing, bittersweet hope. These emotions, harmless to the person, seem to nourish the fungus, causing it to bloom more vividly in periods of emotional intensity.

But this is no passive feeding. The symbiosis is mutual.

In return for this ambient emotional energy, Lumaspores release a gentle mycelial field—a magical network that seems to stabilize memory, ease emotional turbulence, and deepen the Veiltouched’s already-heightened perception. Many Veiltouched report clearer dreams, improved emotional balance, and even moments of sudden recall while near Lumaspores. They often choose to sleep near them, or plant cuttings in ceramic bowls near their beds.

Some herbalists and scholars believe that Lumaspores act as a kind of emotional anchor, storing excess feeling or gently siphoning sorrow too heavy to carry.

There is no known harm to this bond.
